Somehow I doubt it but the college scandal now being exposed needs to open eyes. We argue, hate, sometimes fight over policy. Do things generally change for us? Do the rich ever seem to lose power no matter who’s in power? These people who cheated to get in college are wealthy mostly liberal who love to lecture the rest of us about ethics and we actually argue and take sides. Why is it these people go to congress and come out millionaires on a salary less than $180,000/yr? Yet we let them tell us how we’d be so much better off if we just supported one group or another. We should argue politics. We don’t need to agree but to hate each other while the same people get richer and stay in power because of us is ridiculous.

Okay.... so how many rich kids bought their way into college? And how is this different than a minority being admitted to fill a quota? Or a football player who gets full ride scholarships so the school team can have a running back? Just asking.

My first thought would be one ways legal and the other isn’t. I hate quotas and college sports have morphed into ridiculous idol worship. Since I respect your opinion as one of the more thoughtful, intelligent, posters on OPP I will now be thinking this over more.

It is not illegal to offer a "bribe" but it is illegal to take a bribe. So, why fault rich people for offering a donation and as consideration for that donation is favorable consideration of their child's college application. Keep in mind, once one of these 'rich' kids get into the school they have to maintain their GPA.... not true for those getting in on sports or minority. The institute has to hire or make available tutors for them.... but being expelled for poor performance .... even after tutors and they fail a class, they are given as many opportunities necessary to 'pass.'

Actually a bribe offered depending on how to whom and where can be illegal. They weren’t offering donations. We definitely see this issue different.

Pennylynn, I don't see this as much different than what has been going on with our political class or our business exs. or any other really rich people. They are better than us, they are due what we aren't.

I saw this back in the late 60's and early 70's living in Annapolis, MD, almost a suburb of DC. At the time DC was incestuous, mostly homosexual, transsexual and outright whores, male and female. Most of the aides were twisted. Too many of the Reps. and Senators were twisted and I'm sure it's worst today.

Unless the people wake up, we as a Country are doomed, and them waking up is unlikely with CNN or MSNBC being shown in every waiting room around the Country.

Oh well, G-D bless you for what you do for both man and beast. Mike

You may be right, it depends if admission officials are considered 'public officials.' So, I just may be very wrong.... sorry about that.

I think that all colleges, universities, or higher education admission need to be based on academic achievements not the ability to play a sport or the colour of skin. Now, what to do with the students who earned their degree even if their parents paid a bribe.... do we take those degrees away? Also, this is not new.... in 1996 a university teacher was fined and spent 6 months in jail for taking a bribe. NYT ran the story. The entire sorted mess came out then... but now it seems to be more important..... one has to wonder why.

PL, I am blessed. Like you, I'm having to deal with what some would consider problems. I'm lucky in that I don't. I take every minute of every hour of every day as a blessing. I just this afternoon found out I'm going to have to replace an entire part of my roof, right down to removing the existing roof. Don't now what it's going to cost but luckily I've been putting money away for just this situation.
PL, To me it doesn't matter how the dice rolls, I'm a glass half full type of guy. I will make it work out some how and I feel that from you as well.

Thank you for your prayers and I ask G-D to watch over you and your wards and you have my prayers. Mike

Check your homeowner's policy.... roofs are usually covered. If it is covered, replace the entire roof.... depending on the material, it may not be as expensive as you think. I replaced a roof recently and it only cost $4,000.... and that was on a 3500 square foot roof. And it was that expensive because it had dormers and chimneys. Insurance paid all but $250. So, check your policy first. If the failure is due to weather.... then there is no reason for them to deny repair.

Yup, it just comes with more hypocrisy when it happens to Hollywood elites.

Thank you. I hadn't even considered that. You're right, I've been paying home insurance on this house since 1982 and never used it. I just fixed things myself. When younger I could handle this physically myself but no longer. It's just my nature to not rely on outside sources. I will be in contact with my agent in AM. Mike
