I actually changed my mind on whether or not white privilege exist in the US. In my opinion it does. At first I wanted to deny it because I’ve never gotten a job or anything special just because I was white and I felt insulted. As if everything I have was just handed to me. Recently a friend of mine who played ten years in the NFL put it how he and many of his friends see it. It’s like you’re in a corridor and there’s 100 doors. A couple lead to opportunity. What you do with that opportunity is up to the individual. He explained if your white maybe you get to try 99 doors. If your black maybe 50 doors. Not my fault I have more doors just the way it is. I asked him if it was the same in the NFL now because it’s obvious blacks are more athletic. He agreed it was but also didn’t like anyone thinking he accomplished 10 years of Pro Football just because he was black. We both see there is a privilege but both agree the way to fix it is not to try and level a playing field by taking from one and giving to another. He thinks the answer is education. Equal and mandatory. I don’t disagree. Thoughts?

Of course there is such a thing as privilege... And it can apply to all kinds of different categories...
Apologizing for a situation one did not contribute to is never going to solve the problem...
Education and equality under the law...
And certain individuals getting out from under the victimhood rag...

Excellent analogy...

LOL. He knows that. He meant same opp. at a quality education. Hell if being born with an advantage of some sort has to be equalized nothing will ever get done. There’s IQ Privilege, hight privilege. Family privilege. We are only equal in Gods eyes. I think the entire reparations talk because someone was not born white is crap. I just thought it an interesting subject.

Many years ago, I had a fledgling business and I needed people who were smart, aggressive and could present themselves as consummate professionals.

A white young man applied. He listed for his experience that he 'drove trattor and raised cown'. Beside the fact that I was not looking to hire someone whose work experience was driving a tractor and raising cows, I sent the application back to my secretary with a bright red slash drawn across the form.

Sometime later, I was visited by a salesman who tried to sell me yellow pages advertising, (like I said, a long time ago). He was everything I was looking for; bright, well spoken and left the impression with me that he was entirely professional. I offered him a position on the spot. He declined. I told him that selling telephone book advertising didn't seem that lucrative a living to me. He agreed; I upped my offer, he declined again.

I told him he was a perfect fit for the position I offered and I offered more money than he earned selling ads. He still declined so I asked why. He asked if I had noticed that he was black. I said I had caught that but I saw no reason that should be a problem.

He explained his reasoning to me. He lived in Minneapolis where there was a substantial black community. If he were to accept the position I offered, he felt he would be the only African-American in the small town where I operated from. He said he would have been just too uncomfortable there.

The bottom line is this, education and presentation matter... but so does a willingness to take a chance, even when you feel uncomfortable.

I agree, an equal opportunity at an equal education would be quite appropriate.

Canuckus. kittibob: Pretty insulting for one of your first posts. Just a little heads up. Use Quote Reply if you are addressing an individual. Use Smilies if you're joking. So, let me think that as a newbie, you were joking. Funny. ha ha. Jokes over. Now give us some substance.

Am I missing something here or are you being just another keyboard jackass? I don’t worry about IQ thank you. I’m 63 no debt and work as much as I want. Great friends, lovely wife and support from people on OPP I don’t even know but my IQ’s high enough that I know they’re great people. If IQ can’t solve a problem work harder. Hope you have a great work ethic.

In life you do have many doors BUT its what you do with the door you open. Example I opened a door and all that was there was McDonalds
what the Hey can you do with McDonalds .#1 develope work ethics so you will be ready for when your other door opens . All doors offer opportunity to develop ,learn aspire to move UP its what your WILLING to do to reach your goal. In todays society to many want everything handed to them. I was a CNA for 12 years never thought of moving up because I didn't think I was smart enough. Then I hurt my back lifting a patient then again and again until I started ending being sent to the ER 3 times the last time I realized I couldn't do this anymore without crippling myself and opps I had 3 kids depending on me. so I sucked it up and opened another door and went back to school at the age of 40. Well I guess I wasn't as stupid as I thought when your pushed up against the wall and its do or die time you do what you have to do I have been a LPN since 1991 have worked in nursing homes now for 40years which includes my cna yrs I love my little old people even more now since unfortunately, I'm now older then some of them. Everyone has many many doors you just have to suck it up and open the door move forward never say you can't till you have tried there is no shame in failing as long as you keep trying it often takes a while to realize what we WANT and what we are really good at can be two different things. I encourage all the young people that come to work at our facility to go to school I'd say 90% are black and 70% are in school the rest are older getting ready to retire and dont want to go any further in the workforce. So to say blacks are not offered the same amount of door I think not todays young blacks are a whole lot smarter then the black or white where in our day their thinking ahead making plans and they ARE opening all their doors to explore their possibilities they deserve a pat on the back and a lot of encouragement to help them move forward. The ones I know have left being a victum behind and are working hard to make the future brighter less filled with hate and hopelessness. As one young lady told there are to many things out there to help you if your not willing to help yourself you get what you deserve (nothing)

Thomas Sowell Uses Fact About Firstborn Children To Crush Liberal Lies on Discrimination

https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/thomas-sowell-uses-fact-firstborn-children-crush-liberal-lies-discrimination/?utm_source=Email&utm_medium=newsletter-CT&utm_campaign=dailypm&utm_content=conservative-tribune

“In the first chapter of this book, I point out that the firstborn has higher IQs than his siblings and (in) later life has more achievements. Among astronauts, for example, of the 29 astronauts in the Apollo program that put a man on the moon, 22 were either the firstborn or an only child.
“Now, if you can’t get equality among people born to the same parents and raised under the same roof, why in the world do you think you’re going to get it among people who’ve had such different histories and cultures around the world?”
-Thomas Sowell

“Equality” is a leftist replacement for the actual good fight against evil.

What is evil? First and foremost is big government control, the most murderous enterprises by FAR in the last century. Next, murdering innocent living unborn babies, the most murderous enterprise in America by far. Hmmm, both these evils are things that leftists claim as “solutions”. See the pattern and contrast?

No wonder they want to demonize things that are neither good nor bad in and of themselves. We are all born with inequalities, what we do with what we have is what shows our character, simple as that. Our inherent inequalities aren’t in and of themselves evil, rather, they are the heart and soul of diversity, rather, variety is the spice of life. If we were all meant to be “equal” we would all look, act, and speak exactly the same. Is that really what “good” is supposed to look like? In other words, leftists are the true bigots who won’t allow people to be different, think different or speak differently than them. And the reason is because they love what is truly evil but won’t admit it, so they invent false forms of “values” (ie equality vs inequality) to ease their guilty consciences. Then project those false values upon others so they can feel good about their rejection of what is truly good and fool themselves into thinking they are fighting the good fight when in fact they are doing the opposite. It is thus, to them, just another false “religion” that covers up and justifies one’s sins, rather than purges one of their sins. In this way they placate their guilty consciences without actually turning toward the good.

“1Now indeed even the first covenant had ordinances of divine service, and an earthly sanctuary...
“8The Holy Spirit is indicating this, that the way into the Holy Place wasn't yet revealed while the first tabernacle was still standing; 9which is a symbol of the present age, where gifts and sacrifices are offered that are incapable, concerning the conscience, of making the worshipper perfect...
“13For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled, sanctify to the cleanness of the flesh: 14how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” Hebrew 9:1-14

You're right, it was not only rude but irrelevant. I should keep my comments on subject with nothing personal. Thanks for the advice.
