Correct me if I am wrong... But doesn't Spain have socialized medical care?
As a foreigner would you qualify?
I only ask because under many socialized systems the patient is still required to oay a portion of some procedures... Including elective hip replacement surgery....

I have no knowledge of whether or not Spain works this way....

Why all this derision towards PeterS?

He is one of the best Liberals to engage in debate/discussion.... Very well written arguments for the most part... Rarely any derogatory remarks....

Assuming that you, as a foreigner, could get the surgery at that price, which I doubt, the waiting list is probably very l o n g. how well are the doctors trained, and what procedures are used, you might be looking at procedures from the 50's. The sanitation in the hospital would also have to be comperable if you were actually considering going there.

Ridiculous isn't it that our costs are so high. It's unconscionable.

In Canada (where its free) they often have to wait months for a replacement. In the US it's much quicker. But that doesn't justify the stratospheric cost.

Prior to government getting their rump scratching fingers into health care it was much more affordable as was a college education prior to the Fed providing a superabundance of easily obtainable cash loans.

That’s because the government doesn’t go after the fraud they allow in hospitals, Drs abusing Medicare or Medicaid.. Its a huge slush fund they all take their chunks of serious cash from...And prescription cost ripoffs a pure slush fund factory millions, billions given in “ research” don’t you know...Then they charge 309% the real cost etcetcetc...

Don’t go after that when they have us to foot their bill!!!

I'm pretty sure you missed the point, that our system is charging the government way way too much money for simple medical procedures.

I'll add a correction here for the record, my mother had two knees and a hip replaced and her bills were in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. The surgeon who did the hip charged $800 for each followup every day for two weeks. I asked my mom what that entailed, she saw him twice and he basically looked at the chart, said uh huh, and asked her how she was doing, she said fine and he said good...good, and left...boom, $800 for five minutes.

Insurance companies should send people to India for three weeks for knee replacements at $8000 including resort like rehab for three weeks.

You might even be able to get it done more cheaply in Zimbabwe, Paraguay or Micronesia. It would be good to have you leave here for one of those places or even Spain, if they'd put up with you.
