Senate Dems introduce bill to prevent Trump from using disaster funds to build wall

A group of Senate Democrats, including several 2020 contenders, have introduced legislation that would prevent President Trump from using disaster relief funds to finance a wall along the southern border.

The “Protecting Disaster Relief Funds Act” would block Trump from taking funds allocated to the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Housing and Urban Development or the Army Corps of Engineers for disaster relief and using that money to construct physical barriers along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The article goes on to state the following:

The Democrats backing the bill include several senators who have already entered the presidential race — Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) — as well as Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who is reportedly on the verge of making his announcement.

Harris said in a statement announcing the legislation that Trump “cannot go around Congress to fund his ridiculous vanity project.”

“I’m proud to introduce this bill today to ensure that funds intended for victims of natural disasters do not go towards a wall that Congress won’t fund and people on the border don’t even want,” she added. “This bill will stand up for Congress’ power of the purse and help California families affected by recent natural disasters begin the process of recovery.”

I can understand that you have become use to presidents who recite their oath of office as if they were simply performing a ritual with no real intent of upholding their sworn duty. But to consider that a president doing their duty as being promoting a personal whim reveals how far from understanding our constitution and the constitutional duties of those who swear an oath to it. Congressional members also swore an oath. How can our president abiding by his oath override the powers of the congress? Just because most of them will not do their duty in no way means him doing his overrides any POWERS of congress.

Their power is to legislate and allocate funds through bills. He can veto what they legislate, but with enough of them, they can even override his veto. But by trump getting funds from elsewhere, in no way overrides what funds they choose to allocate or withhold. He hasn't taken funds under their authority. He is taking funds which have ALREADY been allocated by Congress for that use. These include the bulk of the wall money to come from funds authorized by Congress to combat drug trafficking. Since the main argument for the wall is to prevent the cartels easy access to our country over our southern border, this use of these funds is not even a case of reallocation. That the wall will also reduce child traffickers, human traffickers, terrorist invaders, and other illegal invaders is icing on the cake. Other sources of funds are coming from money allocated to various departments in the executive branch, but never obligated. This is money the president has every right to reallocate even without a national emergency being declared. But without declaring a national emergency, getting the funds where they are needed might take far longer especially if taken to court.

So no one is taking anything away from Congress. They set up a road block but Trump neither halted at it nor crashed through it. He simply took another road!

That is basically what I posted earlier on another thread. President Trump is doung his sworn duty to protect the American citizens.

No where is it written how he must do it. As commander in Chief of the Military he has the authority to order the military to protect American borders. They have the funds to do whatever is necessary to protect the American borders and the Senate can not stop them.

Their stupid lawsuit was filed in the wrong court. The 9th circuit bias California court has no juristication. The illegal lawsuit should have been filed in the Washington court.

The Attorney General should file obstruction of justice charges against the ones that filed the fiverious lawsuit.

Power hungry leaders in the Senate do not dictate to the President they just think they do.

But thats a loser for you.

If you paid attention to anything other then the right wing fish wrap, you would know that Amy Klobuchar and no doubt others, have stated that we can not make 4 year colleges at no cost.. But she fully intends to do something to reduce the impossible cost of a college education..

No one other then trump and his orange disciples want the wall.

It is a waste of money and will still need the added personnel and tech updates to be near any level of use.

Even then it will have zero effect on the illegals already in our country, it will have little effect on the drug flow and little effect on human traffic..

It will have a huge effect on our debt as every thing else the orange albatross has done..

the orange con man is fighting only for his own fame and fortune.. he wants all the loot he is gaining and a monument to himself like the real banana republic leaders have, and he is fully willing to sack our nations system of checks and balances to do so..

He has no love of country the only one who counts is himself...

"he is the only one that counts" that is in his own words on the record..

He is a festering scab on the face of America...

Like the government shutdown, the orange POS owns the wall as well..

Nothing at all to protect the people from.. safer then in the last 20 years...

YES! WE, the people living on the front line, DO WANT A WALL!!!!!!! And every CBP agent I know of, wants a wall. I have encounters with several, and sometimes a couple dozen, different CBP agents a month. My house is a stones throw from a trail used by illegals.

Good list! Not to mention civil rights related legislation was not only opposed by leading Democrats, no Democrats voted yea on most civil rights bills. But of course that is not a Republican accomplishment but rather a Democrat failure.

You know by now that you can not discuss "COMMON SENSE" with a liberal.
They have a complete inability to understand due to their very limited mental capacity.
