This is not the first time there was a shut down. You probably applauded the former shutdowns.

He just proved we don't need half of these workers in the first place. We need to shut down a lot of government departments permanently. Trump has created other jobs for them. Trump is the furthest thing from insane but I'm sure you can't keep up with him so it seems that way. It's tough to be slow.

We can start by shutting down the Dept. of Energy which was started during the 70s oil crisis. It did nothing to hold down prices set by opec.
Close the Dept. of Education. Education should be state controlled.
Look close at the other departments that should be state controlled. We could save billions in federal dollars.

Three additional areas to look at to eliminate could be Border patrol, air traffic controllers, and the coast guard. Maybe even Social Security Administration. I hear the fund is running low. Let everyone fend for themselves. Screw them!!! But don't touch my Medicare. I love that welfare benefit.

Your being facetious didn’t really cut it.

One of the tenets of our founders was limited government, yet these PcOfSht politicans have, over the years, somehow managed to work in a "Dept. Of Everything," thereby defeating the founders' purpose, and each of those contains various tangled, entrenched bureaucracies, all filled with people who do very little in the way of real work yet cost the taxpayer a bundle in salaries that are well above what private sector employees are paid for the same jobs, only a lot more work, and benefits packages that dwarf most rank & file private sector employees' benefits.
Energy and Education would be a great start.
Like Dennis Prager so rightly opined, "The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen."

The central governments main job is to be able to defend tha country from both outside and internally. Protecting our borders is first and foremost but that is the big thing that we are lacking.

YEP. They're far more worried about controlling and programming us than doing the job they were hired to do within the organizatiin created to protect our country.

The big money behind todays Democrats is globalist money, and sovereignty means nothing to those people (Soros and friends, even the Bush family are globalists) except an obstacle to be eliminated.
Open borders are a fine way to begin that elimination.
Had Hillary won the 2016 election, we would be well on our way to globalization right now, while hers and Bubba's, the Obamas' and the rest of that corrupt cabal's fortunes would be growing as rewards for success were paid over.
Thank G-d for Trump.
He will get us the wall and it will be another of numerous "curses, foiled again!" moments for Pelosi, Schumer and the rest of the relative bottom feeders in the scheme of things.
