Gov. Kristi Noem announced Tuesday her proposal to require all students
to pass a U.S. citizenship test in order to graduate.

Noem received extended applause and a standing ovation for this proposal
during her first State of the State address as South Dakota's 33rd governor.

Democrats said they weren't sure the citizenship test would be beneficial to students.

IMO, it's a great idea. That would mean students would have to be taught
true history, math skills, economics and about the government.
You know, the things that they haven't been taught by the liberal teachers!

How about making passing the citizenship test mandatory, before any person can register to vote?

If they haven't changed the test, most
citizens couldn't pass it!

I wonder how many members of the current U.S. Congress could get a passing score?

Or, more important, what the "Bill of Rights" is, and why we have it!

Perhaps the only "promise" that the U.S. Congress has ever made good on.

I've been recommending it for years. The test should be the test administered for citizenship.

I agree 100%.

Here's another suggestion. About 25 years ago, a legislator in Rhode Island named Issa, proposed requiring the reading of the Preamble to the state constitution before each session. The local director of The Civili Liberties Union, immediately objected on First Amendment basis saying it was unconstitutional because it invokes God. He got air tome for it in an evening news.

Personally, I can't imagine a better reason than that an ACLU affiliate opposes something like that as a reason to support it.

What's their next move, declare the reading of The Declaration of Independence unconstitutional?

You have to be an anti American bigot to oppose a suggestion that can only help the
Students to see what this republic is. That democrats oppose it, as thy do voter ID, is an example of what true loyal Americans are up against. How anyone can claim to be a patriotic American and oppose the the acting’s on what being a good citizen is, is an
open admission of disloyalty.

Actually, I had to pass a course in civics to graduate from the 7th grade in South Dakota.

I wonder when that changed, and why?
