U.S. Coast Guard: Hold yard/garage sales
https://nypost.com/2019/01/09/coast-guards-shutdown-advice-do-odd-jobs-or-hold-yard-salesThe US Coast Guard is telling families left without paychecks and drowning in bills because of the government shutdown to consider holding yard sales or even declaring bankruptcy as last-ditch ideas to make ends meet.
The tip sheet from the Coast Guard’s Support Program also suggests babysitting, dog walking or getting a side gig as a part-time shopper to make do as President Trump’s government shutdown rolls into its third week.
“Finding supplemental income during your furlough period might be challenging,” the five-page document advises. “If late or missed payment become a reality, let your creditors know.”
“Bankruptcy is a last option,” it later adds. ‘You should consider all other options first.”
The tip sheet was first uncovered by the Washington Post and was removed from the Coast Guard website after the newspaper asked questions.
The suggestions do not “reflect the Coast Guard’s current efforts to support our workforce during this lapse in appropriations,” Coast Guard spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Scott McBride told the broadsheet. “As such, this guidance has been removed.”
The government has been shut down for 20 days after Trump said he would reject any spending bill that did not include funding for his controversial border wall.

When I first read this, I thought.. 'what the hey'...and then called my grand-daughter, whose husband is in the Marines at Camp Lejeune, N.C. They have our newest great-grandchild. They haven't called back yet after my leaving a message. I figured if the Coast Guard is worried about its personnel missing a paycheck, what about the other services?

What I heard is that all services but the Coast Guard will be paid, but the Coast Guard is part of DHS, so they won't be paid until it's over.

Thanks for that info, Arch. I was not aware of that fact, and neither was my son.
I have always considered the USCG as one of our military services. They deserve better than this.

why can't special compensations be made for them?

For sure, that should be considered. I hope those fine young service members are afforded relief.
If needed, BB, I'm willing to give our Coasties possession and rights to your IOUs.
That should cover them for a good while. Since they're kind'a like Squids (but better) there's a good chance you'd pay up.

Have you heard the latest story about Trump and Pelosi, and her lackey Schumer? It seems they were in one of his offices the other day when Trump asked Peeloosli if she would do something ab out the wall in 60 days if he opened the government that very day. Of course, her answer was"No'' which was an obvious thing from her. Trump answered that she should consider the government closed down until she could use more than two letters isn her answer. He then unceremoniously told the "lady" and her lackey to get the hell out of the office.
I don't think that Nasty Nancy and Chunky have yet been able to see that they are keeping the government shut down, but then few Trump haters have seen that yet.
