NEW YORK (Reuters) – A growing proportion of Americans blame President Donald Trump for a partial government shutdown that will cut off paychecks to federal workers this week, though Republicans mostly support his refusal to approve a budget without taxpayer dollars for the U.S.-Mexico border wall, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Tuesday.
The national opinion poll, which ran from Jan. 1 to Jan. 7, found that 51 percent of adults believe Trump “deserves most of the blame” for the shutdown, which entered its 18th day on Tuesday. That is up 4 percentage points from a similar poll that ran from Dec. 21 to 25.

Another 32 percent blame congressional Democrats for the shutdown and 7 percent blame congressional Republicans, according to the poll. Those percentages are mostly unchanged from the previous poll.
Trump has promised to keep the government partially closed until Congress approves funding for an expanded barrier along the border.

Illegal border crossings into the United States have declined dramatically in recent years, yet Trump insists a wall is still necessary to stem a “humanitarian and national security crisis” in the region.
The president has asked Congress for nearly $6 billion for the wall and was expected to make his case directly to the public on Tuesday night in a nationally televised address.
Democratic leaders in Congress have refused to approve funding for additional border fencing, saying that it is an ineffective way to secure the border.

Public support for a border wall has shifted considerably over the past few years as it became a centerpiece of the Trump agenda. The poll found that 41 percent of the public supports building additional border fencing, down 12 points from a similar poll that ran in the first week of 2015, as opposition doubled among Democrats.
It also found that only 35 percent of adults in the United States support a congressional spending bill that includes funding for the wall, and 25 percent support Trump’s decision to keep the government closed until Congress approves funding for the wall.-----MORE------

There is more to it than the wall. There are other security measures such as surveillance and response capability. Much of what is called a wall that is already in place is a joke and is in need of a complete rebuild. No one has ever said a wall should be built along the entire border. There are areas along the border where a wall is needed and other areas where it is a waste of time and money. Like most Liberals whose tenuous acquaintance with reality hangs by a gossamer thread, you think some Liberal talking head in New York knows more about the situation than the law enforcement professionals who are on the scene and who overwhelmingly support the wall where it would be effective.

The wall is necessary. I don't miss the government at all. What I'm saying is who cares that what you accuse....

A little different perspective~~

https://thehill.com/hilltv/what-americas-thinking/418259-americans-divided-on-whether-trumps-border-wall-should-be?amp

As for the wall, well past that going right to shut it down and for a good five years!!!

We need to take care of whats here then consider reopening it with maxium cap 50k and if they can’t produce veriable vetting docs and have income to sustain them no entry!!!

You bank on this political issue as if its going to end Trump... We’ll see but I don’t think it will...

According to polls done after the Trump prime time at the Oval Office the polls jumped up another 2% so actual polling that I have looked at its 57% against the wall. And of course we all look at the other 32% that give Trump anything he wants. But even that is beginning to skip now that only 27% agree with Trump shutting down the government.

Bad Bob I honestly think Trump is creating this Border Crisis which there is none to deflect away from his legal problems. There’s only two things that Trump fears now and one is losing his base that’s why this manufactured crisis. Number Two is the Muellar investigation which by creating this border crisis it takes the Muellar investigation out of the daily News cycle.

But his border crisis and government shutdown is beginning to back fire on him because now what is actually going on at the border is in the daily news cycle. People are beginning to understand how these people get into this country and how the drugs get into this country. We both know it’s through our Ports of entry, (DEMOCRATS ARE FOR UNGRADING OUR TECHNOLOGY TO SCAN THESE VEHICLES THAT CROSS THE PORTS OF ENTRY. THERE BEGINNING TO UNDERSTAND THAT MOST ILLEGALS CAME HERE LEGALLY WITH TEMPORARY VISA’s AND STAY.

There is no humanitarian crisis the crisis is those kids taken from there parents and put in cages.

But Bad Bob I finally have realized the Trump Doctrine and it makes sense and his base buys into it.

(BREAK SOMETHING) (FABRICATE CRISIS) Then he demands credit for promising to fix it. Trump is a master at controlling the news cycle. Next week it will be something different.

Last night he played the Steve Miller game of mentioning 3 murders committed by illegals and used the language of what if it was your child or your mother or your father. But my answer to Trump is what if your kid or mother went to concert in LV and got shot, what if your kid went to a night club or to school and came home in a body bag and the only option republicans have is do nothing. Democrsts are using common sense border protection and common sense gun control and republicans are going to loose.

The kids taken from their parents and put in cages happened on Obama's watch, not Trump's. Those pictures that went viral were taken in 2014. Guess who was president then, or is the math too complicated for you?
