All living former presidents refute Trump's claim they privately voiced support for border wall

Chris Sommerfeldt

All four living ex-presidents have publicly rebuffed President Trump’s claim that they privately gushed about the need for a massive wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.

Trump made the questionable remark during a raucous press conference in the White House Rose Garden on Friday while defending his refusing to reopen the government without Congress first earmarking at least $5 billion for a behemoth barrier on the border.

“This should have been done by all of the presidents that preceded me and they all know it," Trump said of his wall obsession. "Some of them have told me that we should have done it.”

Angel Urena, a spokesman for Bill Clinton, quickly came out affirming the 42nd President had never told Trump anything to that effect. “In fact, they’ve not talked since the inauguration,” Urena said.

Freddy Ford, a spokesman for George W. Bush, followed suit and said the former President had never discussed such a thing with Trump.

A spokesman for Barack Obama declined to provide new comment but pointed to a pertinent May 2016 remark from the 44th President: “The world is more interconnected than ever before, and it’s becoming more connected every day. Building walls won’t change that.”

Finally, former President Jimmy Carter came out Monday rejecting Trump’s claim.

“I have not discussed the border wall with President Trump, and do not support him on the issue,” Carter said in a statement.

A White House spokeswoman did not return a request for comment, but even Trump’s own acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney wouldn’t back up his boss’s long-shot assertion.

“I have no idea,” Mulvaney told CNN’s Jake Tapper on Sunday when asked about who Trump was talking about. “I have not asked the President that question.”

of course they can't admit it publicly in the face of the press uproar. I remember chuck schemer and Hillary and Obama voting border security.
The press would be running flip flop footage all day long I'd it was Trump.

Yo slatts, still at it eh? Maybe Trump was taking their previous comments on immigration, which many were FOR, before they were AGAINST. We have RINO's and dimocrats who have changed their positions on illegal immigration, (the halfrican comes to mind) https://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/president-obama-the-legacy/obama-leaves-behind-mixed-legacy-immigration-n703656 , then you have the Trump hating Bush's after he skunked the 'Jebster' who were always for cheap labor whether illegal or not. Then the peanut farmer who's administration was so screwed up illegal aliens weren't even on his mind with the Iran fiasco. Then your pride and joy, Slick Willie who was more concerned which intern was going to blow him rather than dealing with criminal illegal aliens~~~Yep, I take these previous Presidents with a grain of salt because they all have an agenda......................HATE TRUMP!

What is there to hate? He’s just an insensitive
blustering lying braggart. Benign contempt would be a more accurate analysis and more fitting.

It's a good thing that Trump has lots of people to feed his delusions.

Have not all of the presidents in question mentioned their support in their states of the union addresses? I think that I have seen excerpts from some of them supporting a boarder wall.

That's why they built a wall as needed.

And now it is needed the entire length of the border so lets build it and stop hassling about it.

His mistake was in erroneously stating "Some of them have (personally) told me that we should have done it.” The man can't help but embellish his comments with hyperbolic bluster.

Our president is a compulsively habitual liar.

As compared to the previous President he doesn't even hold a candle to that one. BHO couldn't get through a speech with out lying unless it was all spelled out on the teleprompter for him.
