Since it's about 6.3% nationally, they appear to be doing pretty good.

That's pretty far fetched. The Repubs didn't do any better under Bush and you think they'll do better now? What's changed? Using MDMA instead of cocaine maybe?

citing party leadership in any one state for low unemployment is fraught with perils.

Minnesota-Democrat governor and leglisature-4.7
Hawaii-Democratic governor and legislature-4.6
Wyoming-Republicns governor and legislature-4.3
Vermont-Democratic governor and legislature-4.0
South Dakota -Republican governor and legislature-3.5
North Dakota-Republican governor and legislature-2.6

It helps if masses of oil shale is found under your state. And Louisiana gets a boost from it's oil industry.

Nor does is seem party affiliation works on what states have high unemployment.

Arkansas (R), Rhode Island (D), Kentucky(R), Arizona (R), Mississippi (R) Michigan(D) and California (D) all have unemployment rates above the national average.

Those who are to blinded by partisanship can't seem to see the forest for the trees. Government has something to do with business growth and failure. But there are a dozen other influences-a particular key industry in a state are in a slump, aging infrastructure, changing trends in business (such as the rise of shale oil in ND, SD), older, inefficient plants closing, and so on.

But continue to see it through partisan eyes if you wish. Just be prepared to have holes punched in your partisanship.

Janet Reno was the mouth for that. She threatened all sorts of things if the banks kept loaning responsibly. (not a typo)

It helps when the nation unemployment rate is on the decline.

Some other factors-

Adjust for inflation, gasoline prices are at their lowest since 2004.

The Stock Market has doubled since 2009.

Corporate profits are at record highs.

US industrial production is at a 14 year high.

Some of this can be traced back to federal or state government action. Much of it is due to the nature of the fee market system.

The sub-prime mortgage crisis was caused by banks trying to boost their bottom lines-not due to any push by Democrat or Republican federal officials.

The rea estate market was hot and the private banks and financial institutions all wanted to get in on the action.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, two government-backed mortgage companies originally had stricter guildlines. But to remain competitive, they lowered their standards.

It's amazing to see what legnths people will go to to put a partisan spin on something.

Those wishing to push the sub-prime crisis on anybody should look at the de-regulation of the financial industry by both parties and the failure of the Bush administration to place any kind of regulation on the bundled mortgage securities, if they want to find a boogeyman for the meltdown of 2008.

Free market capitalism has always had a boom-bust cycle. Both parties are complicit, neither part is solely at fault.

Those bile-colored glass some of the hyper-right wear is obscuring their vision.
