Is it time to shut down FR&S?

FRS is not a safe room. It is not a Catholic only space. It is not a Protestant only space. It is not a Jew only space. It is not a Wiccan only space. It is not a Pagan only space. It is not a safe room for Baha'i, Buddhism, Confucianism, Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Shinto, Sikhism, Taoism, or Zoroastrianism. It is not a Conservative only space. It is not a Liberal only space. Did I miss anyone? In short, it is not a safe room!

One thing that all religions share is a thread of kindness for one another, an unwillingness to harm another individual.... a love for our Father... the Universe or whatever you think of as a G*d, god, or goddess. I thought it would go without saying that personal attacks are unwelcome. Attack a philosophy, attack what you read in the news.... but attacking each other is WRONG.

I will not ban someone because they practice a different religion. I will not ban someone because they speak up and defend their faith. I will not be deleting comments or posts because someone can not defend their own faith.... I will delete any comment that uses profanity or singles out an individual to attack. Other than that, we are adults.... most have spent their entire lives set in a belief that offers comfort, hope, and a communion with people who believe the way we do. Would you expect your religious leader to shut the door on anyone searching for answers, even if they do not believe as you do? Would you expect that G*d with all His mercy and forgiveness would approve if you did?

I am a Jew.... I can not defend many things written 3,000 years ago. I can not defend what a few people do in this century. I do not expect a Catholic to defend the Crusades or pedophile priests. I do not expect a Christian to defend burning people suspected of witchcraft or mass murder and shootings. I can not expect a Pagan to defend sacrificing to their gods or "conjuring up evil" or "conjuring up ghosts" (if they do such a thing, I confess ignorance on this point).

I do not want to ask OPP Admin to shut FR&S down, as I believe this space provides an area to discuss what and why we believe. It is a space to ask for community prayer. It is a space to share..... but, I have had enough of the whining from a few.... so I am asking ANY ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE to come forward and volunteer to replace me. Become the Admin of FRS and exact your own "retribution" as you have demanded of me.

It would be a mistake to have one of those who complain to replace you. Then it would become a Catholic only forum as it seemed to be before.

I agree that if this is to be a place to discuss beliefs then one can't try and dominate it which is what has been happening and this drove other people to post in response. There is no discussion of beliefs - those threads are extremely rare. Doc has posted 12 topics just today. All for promoting Catholicism. No one else comes close to doing this. In looking at past topics he has a long history of doing just that. People get sick of it so they post in response. That's not an excuse just explaining the whys of it.

This would be a great forum for discussion if people would simply....discuss. No one reads long articles on Catholic dogma or any other dogma. If someone gets a daily digest with various articles and topics why not put all of those in a single topic with links so people can check them out if they so choose. We don't need 12 separate topics.

Just a few thoughts.

Thank you Rose for showing me where this was posted today. I am in agreement with Rose on this and I believe that you will find that others are as well. I have no problem with Doc110 posting as to why he believes such and such but he has also been attacking anyone who happens to believe differently as well. He has resorted to name calling when he can't defend his stance in regard to history or the bible and when others try and get him to respond to question he again goes into the name calling mode in an attempt to get is to show anger. When we don't show anger and call him names he the goes and posts about 10 to 12 times a day of Roman Catholic Doctrine and why everyone else is wrong and only he and Roman Catholics are right. What would you suggest Pennylynn to get others to post appropriately on here and to obey the rules. Doc110 has attacked me personally for not responding to him in length but I am not a typist and after a certain time of day the keyboard is hard for me to see and so I use the phrase Amen and Amen to show my agreement with an article or ones response to another. We also have been blessed with responses from padremike even though a number of us don't agree with his beliefs it is interesting to see what those beliefs are and where he is coming from and he has for the most part remained civil. Radiance3 or Venus3 seems to take her cue off of Doc110 and when he starts calling all Christians or Protestants heretics she of course jumps right in and follows suit. My personal response to both Doc110 and Radiance3 is if you don't want it coming back at you in that manner then don't do it to others. The only other Roman Catholic person that has been on this thread has been Pafret don't know about the spelling though. If you have any suggestions for us to become more civil I would like to hear them because for the most part we were but somewhere the wheels came off and I can't recall when that happened. I had sent Doc110 a PM so that he could help out Radiance3 because she seemed all alone at the time on here maybe he felt that i was in agreement with his doctrine or religion I don't know if he was disappointed in me or not but this was shortly after he returned from his twin sisters death from cancer. Maybe Doc110 is also suffering from anger at losing his twin sister as well as other issues but he shouldn't be taking them out on all of us. Those are my thoughts so far be they good bad or useless they are here.

Bahmer,

This is certainly the longest response I have seen from you.... and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I too noticed the many threads submitted by Doc.... one thing I can do is put a limitation on the number of threads one individual can create in a day. I do not want to take a harsher step at the present time. He/she may be working out the inconsistency of religion as desired with the number of bad news reports on actions of priests. I can not say this is the reason for so many articles, but I know that I am a list maker.... when I have a troubling decision to make, I list the pros and cons and I have been known to do this for weeks. It helps me to examine all areas before I commit.

As for name calling.... well, that is disgusting. As you know, I am a regular target on Main and have been called some rather offensive names and accused of disgusting things...or at least my people have. Believe me when I say it is not easy to remain calm, there are times that I am glad I am at a key board rather than face-to-face. At least at the key board I can stop, walk away, think about it and return more composed. After my last round of PMs I think that we will not see much of the name calling. However, I will be reading each comment and should I find an individual who can not be civil then I will delete the offending posts and after the 3d time (of course with warnings) they will be blocked. I do not like blocking anyone as I think that we all need to have the freedom of thought and expression, but that can not come at the price of dignity or infringe on the rights of others.

I can not say how sorry I am that you and others have been subject to unnecessary rudeness. I was very lax and was not really reading all the comments. So, I am to blame for allowing this to happen, so do not blame anyone else. I certainly beg you and others for forgiveness.

I ask you and others.... if you encounter a nasty contributer, drop me a PM with the link. I will immediately review it and I will not hesitate in addressing the issue. This is the most that I feel comfortable in doing at the present time.

I do not want to loose you or anyone from this section of OPP... I think that we can get to discussions rather than food fights. I know with your help, and others, we can make this section not only civil but an example of understandings...hands across the divide of religion. That is my goal, to bring up difficult issues and issues that quite frankly separates us from each other. I believe that G*d intends us to grow and learn, show compassion and love, and we can do this to honor Him. Name calling and other shenanigans serve to dishonor Him.

Thank you Rose,

If you would, please read the response I just did to my long time friend Bahner. I wish I had engaged sooner, the fault is totally on me. I ask you to forgive me for allowing this situation to get to this point and for any insult you have suffered.

People do not read the very long threads... unless I am in the middle of a discussion, I will skim them for the meat and potatoes... ignoring the fluff. But.... you do not know me, I can be very long winded. My mother was a teacher and my Poppa was a Rabbi.... I learned to be long in my responses, partially to cut down on the questions I knew they would ask. It is funny when I reflect on my childhood.... being an only child was not easy. Anyway, that does not address our current problem. What I suggest, unless the topic is of particular interest, ignore them. I can establish a maximum number of daily topics if you think this would be helpful, our Father knows we have more than a few spammers on OPP.

So... let us all move forward .... peacefully and productively. And should you find a troubling comment, drop me a PM with the link. I will read it, delete it if it breaks policy, or take other actions if necessary.

Hi Pennylynn,

I certainly don't blame you for anything that happened here. You can't be expected to read everything.

I think a limited number of topics per day per person would help. Maybe that would facilitate more discussion. I normally scroll past most topics but after seeing so many were similar and by the same person my Latin blood got the better of me and I started responding. My mistake.

I don't find comments troubling but more revealing. If someone wishes for me to have entrance into hell I'd like them to explain why. It doesn't hurt my feelings.

I apologize for any part I had in escalating this. Maybe its good it all came to a head so going forward we can have some discussion like there used to be.

Thank you. But, I am the one that asked for this section and as such am responsible.
So... what is on your mind today? We are past the hard part... let us celebrate a new day and the Christmas is just around the corner. Time to reflect on the birth, the meaning of his birth and his message.

This is also the Feasible of Lights... and that has a history too... perhaps we can discuss our celebrations...... and why we hang lights. I bet you have heard that it is a left over from Pagan rights. It is not. It actually comes from a war and a blessing from our Father. This was incorporated into Christianity as a nod to history. We share many things and the last 10 or so years there have been the anti-Christmas gangs who try to lead us away from celebrating. They will tell you that Christ could not have been born in the winter and other stories. Should we compare notes?

I don't know anything about the Festival of Lights. I will have to look that up.

IMO there isn't a war on Christmas as much as there is on Christ being in Christmas. The commercialism is still there but they want to take God out of it completely. Is that what you mean? Nativity scenes, displays of the ten commandments, they want it all gone. Why do they want it gone? Because they are being convicted but they are fighting it - my opinion. Squashing one's pride and submitting fully to God goes against our basic wicked nature. Ever asked an atheist where our sense of right and wrong come from? It can make for an interesting discussion. And I'm no philosopher!

The custom of having a tree does have roots in paganism but we don't worship our trees so it doesn't matter. I have heard some Christians say having a tree is wrong because it has origins in paganism but I completely disagree. Now if we were to pray to the tree that would be different.

The anti-Christmas people just want something to complain about. Honestly I've never looked into when He was actually born have you? I don't think there is a definite date.

Thank you very much! We very much appreciate your ability to understand and see the whole picture! I have lost my temper when constantly insulted by lying about our actual words. I was raised in a home where lying was just about the worst thing one of us girls could do......and it stuck! We were also taught that we each were responsible for our actions! So! I will reign in this Irish temper!

I have always admired your ability to judge a comment/post/thread with complete honesty, no matter who said it or what the subject matter was! I haven't seen many on OPP with that kind of courage or honesty.

I think my friends would agree that we would enjoy you sharing your beliefs and your knowledge with us.

Thank you again for your kindness and your willingness to discuss and to direct this section to be successful and inviting to everyone to discuss, even passionately, their beliefs, while maintaining civility!

I am not a good typist and for me that is what I can do very easy to agree with all of you. Especially as it gets dark earlier and earlier it is more difficult for these old eyes to see the keyboard then. My late wife was a medical transcriptionist and did all of my typing for me. She typed my reports for work as well as my resumes when needed I sure do miss her. Thanks for the compliment I believe that Doc110 hated it and maybe even Radiance3 and padremike as well.
