Man Refuses Seat Beside Woman Reading Bible.

I like this story! It was an excellent way to handle a problem on an airplane.
It was a typical airline flight like any other — until one elderly Christian woman was insulted for her faith.
The flight attendant who stepped in is facing controversy for the way she handled the situation.
Two major US airline companies have recently come under fire after the world witnessed their lack of care and blatant abuse of their customers.
But I must admit, when I read this story I couldn’t help but smile.

T he young flight attendant in this situation stands head and shoulders above the rest and it’s no wonder this Facebook post has been shared over 83,000 times! The altercation reportedly began when a middle-aged man arrived at his seat on a crowded flight, but refused to sit down. His seat was next to an elderly white woman reading her Bible. Disgusted, the Muslim man immediately summoned the flight attendant and “demanded another seat". The outraged man proceeded to tell the young flight attendant that he refused to sit next to an “infidel”.
The flight attendant did what any good customer service representative would do and explained that she would try to find another seat. After searching for a seat, the flight attendant returned and reportedly stated: “There are no more seats in economy, but I will check with the captain and see if there is something in first class.”
Almost 10 minutes later, the flight attendant returned and explained that she had found one available seat. The flight attendant continued: “It is our company policy to never move a person from economy to first class, but being that it would be some sort of scandal to force a person to sit next to an unpleasant person, the captain agreed to make the switch to first class.”
Before the outraged man could reply, the attendant gestured to the elderly Christian woman with the Bible and continued: “Madam, if you would so kindly retrieve your personal items, we would like to move you to the comfort of first class as the captain doesn’t want you to sit next to such an unpleasant person”.
It didn’t take long for passengers in the surrounding seats to applaud, while some even gave a standing ovation for the flight attendant.
I couldn’t agree more with the brave flight attendant’s decision to defend this elderly woman and her faith!

Really an excellent solution to the problem. That technique should be used more often.

I so agree with you and applaud the actions of the flight attendant. Thank you for bringing this story to us, especially in a time when we could all use an uplifting story!

That is exactly the person who should have been moved to first class...nice

My wife and I got a bump to first class when a substantially overweight woman, who had the window seat, was using over half of my wife's seat to where she was over into a quarter of mine. I'm a big guy, I use all of my seat, and was sticking out into the aisle enough that I was worried carts were going to be whacking me. I asked my wife what are you doing? She whispered the lady next to me is taking up more than half of my seat. I said loudly that's BS, that's not going to fly (I actually did say that). Jeanne was shushing me and telling me to be quiet (out of consideration for the hefty woman). I loudly said no way, this was not going to be okay. I called the stewardess over, my wife frantically telling me to be quiet, me saying no I'm not going to shush. The stewardess looked at how much of my wife's seat was being encroached on and said let me see what we can do. She came back and said they had two seats in first class for us. The woman was all outraged and loudly said she was the one that needed the first class seat, the stewardess nicely said that she now had three seats all to herself and could even stretch out if she wanted, that was it...done deal. I was sure glad they didn't give us just one first class seat and leave me with the coach seat, that would have been a cold and frosty flight.

Y'know, from the perspective a guy who was always in the back, middle of every class photo in school, airlines these days have not only shrunk passenger space to the point of being uncomfortable, it's dangerous.

This is a great story to read in order to better understand the current decay in public trust of the media. The first thing to note is that there is nothing to collaborate the veracity of the story. No airline filght number date or origin or destination of the flight is listed. Even though the flight is supposedly full there are no witnesses or link to cell phone video that would have been taken by other passengers. This tale is obviously made up to evoke a response from people already married to the false narrative that there is a war on Christianity, and it worked. The story and its outcome is appealing for several reasons; it is an elderly lady being confronted, her detractor is of course Muslim and a man. This reinforces in weak minds that Muslim men are universally threatening especially to vulnerable little old Christian women. The heroic captain and flight crew then displayed generosity and chivalry putting the shocked bad guy in his place and insuring the old lady’s comfort. If you buy into this rot you are a fool, it is fiction and serves only to promote hate and self righteousness and yet this nonsense is spread like the clap by people who can’t think for themselves. The fact that people are desperate to believe crap like this dosn’t speak well for the state of our nation. If you buy this stuff you owe it to yourself to examine the credibility of your sources and not pass it on. It is a malignancy on our nation. Good citizens and patriots have no excuse for spreading rubbish propaganda. If your ideology is this reliant on lies and fiction you owe it to your fellow Americans to examine what drives your beliefs.

I am against fat shaming, which you did, however I am for forcing a very obese person to purchase two seats. I have a cousin who used to get fat shamed and it was devastating to watch. I often bought flight tickets for her and if she had to sit in business class I would purchase the seats near her... My first preference for her was first class I would also purchase the seat near her. It was for consideration of others but mainly to protect her from people like you. These people suffer enough, they do not need for someone like you to "loudly" bring attention to their size. My cousin, may G*d give her peace, was a fat baby, a fat child, a fat teen, and a fat adult. She tried every diet known and even had part of her stomach removed. Was hospitalized for anemia, Bulimia, kidney problems, and a host of illnesses all because she could not accept herself and because of the fat shaming.

So good for you for getting your first class ride.

So should a person squeeze it up and suffer a five hour flight all crunched up? I feel for fat people and am reasonably considerate. But like you say, someone who actually needs two seats should pay for two seats. Instead of wanting a window seat that has an inflexible side she should get an aisle so that she can compensate way less on the one person next to her. Apologizing to the people you are crowding would be huge. And yes, in hindsight I could have gotten up and quietly asked the stewardess if there were any other seats.

I too had a cousin that was quite obese. Nobody could understand how she could be so overweight when according to her she ate half the calories needed just to survive. I hired her as office manager, three pastries before work, a couple more before noon, heaven help anyone touching one of her donuts, they were facing potential death. We had a little cutie working the front desk that apparently cut one of Renee's stashed donuts and took half. I heard Renee screaming obscenities at her, telling her keep her effing hands off of her donuts. I waded in and told her I bought a dozen donuts every day for 4/5 people, what was she talking about? She said she set aside donuts in the fridge and they were hers, that she needed them to get through until noon. One morning I walked in as she was shifting a two or three pound bag of little candy bars into her desk. Toward the end of the day I went to get one, she told me they were almost gone and they needed to last her until the end of the day, in other words, no I couldn't have one. She said she couldn't concentrate if she wasn't munching something.

I had a bird food company, my partner and my wife are nutritionists, fat cells need to be fed, there is no such thing as immaculate fat. It's eating habits and moderating how much you eat. My mom was obese as well, when she was here she ate the way we did as far as portions, and we eat good, and she could lose a few pounds a week, until two weeks when she maintained we were starving her to death (really...literally). My wife found a whole bunch of empty candy bar wrappers under the bed after a stay, I was teasing her about it, that we'd busted her, she started crying and told me she was starving to death the way we were feeding her. She made heroic attempts at dieting...that weren't really.

I feel sorry for overweight people, they generally have psychological or self control issues. My cousin's was that she was molested as a girl by her step father and his brother who lived there for a time.

What was it that was better about my story? I see something and it reminds me of a similar thing and there is nothing wrong with sharing it. It has to do with wanting to share common interest things that I can agree with the right for a change.

What is it about some that no matter what I say I get beat up for it? What is it about some right wingers that they have to be such negative nasty pigs? That they can't just enjoy decent stories that have good outcomes?
