What would it take for the deep divide in American politics and ideologies to be mended? I am a conservative, but would like to see more cooperation between the left and the right. Is this possible?

You seem to be seeking an answer, and I will try to give it as constructively as possible.
I, and many other people on the left are extremely angered at the lack of consistency and accountability on the right.

What I mean by consistency is the double standard applied to the presidents, on specifically these things: When a Bush is in office, he passes a bailout package. When Obama comes into office, with the financial crisis still deepening, bailouts are now to be opposed. When Bush was about to leave office the financial crisis kicked off, but 2 months later Republicans are blaming Obama for not having fixed it already. When Bush is in office, Fox News acknowledges that the President really has no control over the price of gas. When Obama is in office, it’s his fault.
I could go on and on and on and on, but there are montage videos you can watch where Fox lambastes Obama for something, then lauds the wisdom of Bush or Trump for the same thing. And it’s not just Fox - it’s conservatives in general. Govt. spending is OUT OF CONTROL while a Democrat is in office, and then a conservative takes office, spends even more, and . . . silence. Clinton’s blowjob is highcrimes and impeachment, Trump paying pornstars and bringing out a new story every 3 days is just fine.
As a result, it’s hard for liberals to believe conservatives actually have any principles at all.

Second, a bit of accountability. You know how we all like to say that moderate muslims need to be responsible for reporting on, and talking down, the extremists in their midst? Yeah - that - with conservatives.

Like it or not, the inauguration of Trump was greeted in some hotel conference facilities by Hitler salutes and chants of “Heil Trump!” It may be embarrassing, but Trumps administration contained people who were literally paid by Turkey to act on their behalf, who failed to disclose that fact. Mike Flynn was literally a paid foreign agent, who failed to register as such and did not disclose this to the government. Manafort has a similar problem. Trump and his press secretaries tell baldfaced lies on a daily basis. Trump helped his son falsify his statement to the government regarding his meeting with Russians. Trump and his family are cheapening the office of the president by using it to secure business deals.

If YOU want to heal the divide between liberals and conservatives YOU need to start calling out the corruption, the racists, the liars, and the climate change deniers in your party. In other words, you need to get right with the truth.

Telling half-lies and evasions and then calling them “alternative facts” while smirking isn’t clever - it’s destructive to our country. Starting a war on the media isn’t just good fun. The media has an integral role to play in keeping our govt. honest.

What would go a long way toward healing the divide is when conservatives show they actually care about America, which is to say they support the principles that are foundational to the successful functioning of our state.
