Off Script: IRS Leader Apologizes For Tea Party Targeting, Despite Obama’s ‘Not Even A Smidgen Of Corruption’ Denial

New IRS Commissioner John Koskinen, who’s been on the job for less than two months, apologized today for the mess his IRS colleagues made when they helped President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign along by holding up conservative nonprofit groups ahead of the 2012 campaign.

While keeping his remarks general, Koskinen acknowledged to reporters that the scandal had caused “people” to “suffer,” and apologized before reporters after emerging from a grilling in front of the House Ways and Means Committee.

“It won’t happen going forward. And to the extent that people suffered accordingly, I apologize for that,” Koskinen said. He also pledged to cooperate with an ongoing series of Congressional and (nominally) criminal investigations into the scandal, although he wished aloud for the scandal to live only in the past as he settles into his leadership role.

After today, perhaps the White House will arrange a huddle with the Obama appointee to ensure everyone’s speaking from the same playbook. President Obama delivered a contradictory message three days ago when he sat down for a contentious interview with Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly, denying the IRS did anything malicious when it hit the Tea Party.

“There were some bone-headed decisions,” he told O’Reilly, hastening to add that there was, nevertheless, “not even mass corruption – not even a smidgen of corruption.”

Did you know that there are some 5000 IRS employees? Or that a good number of them have their own political ideas? Or that many of them don't support the Gov. they work for?
Answer those questions and it's easy enough to find someone who will agree with what you'd like them to say. ANYTHING you'd like them to say.

Don't care how many work there, it should never have taken place in the first place.

The 503 C status these groups apply for is usually reserved for groups like a Volunteer fire department or seinor citizens center, groups that do benifit and charitable work in community's. After the citizens united decision election attorneys on the right thought that non profits could be set up so that when doners wanted to run smear campaigns the dough to fund them could be anonymously laundered tax free through the non profits. It looked like a perfect loophole to pretend the groups did charitable education of the public while what they realy do is run negative campaign ads they label issue ads. The IRS field office was swamped with applications for new "charity's" smelled a rat and investigated the applications. As they do any one who may be filing fraudulently for tax exempt status. Thease groups are on thin ice and should be investigated because their mission really is not charitable in nature, they are just using slick lawyers to exploit a loophole in the tax code.

Kevyn-so the republican rats smell differently than the democrat rats so they go only after the republican rats while the democrat rats are allowed to eat the cheese and escape the trap. There is nothing wrong with exploiting a loophole in the tax code. Why is it there in the first place? This was a ploy to get Obama re-elected and it did not originate with the janitor or a low level employee. This came from the top and the underlings obeyed for fear of losing their jobs. Lois Lerner did not plead the fifth because she used bad language but because she is hiding something sinister. This cannot be glossed over and will fester until the truth is revealed. This administration operates without a modicum of accountability anywhere and it is clearly evident that they do not intend to change. Good Luck America !!!

The complaints were regarding the work of an IRS field office in Ohio with no ties to the administration, the office received applications only from right wing groups as this was a very new strategy after the Citizen United decision. They did not treat left leaning applications differently because there were no such applications.

Ohh you poor soul, you are so lost, it is my hope that some day you will be found. You, and all those like you. The only advice I can give you now, is for you to put the kool-aid down, it's ok you won't die without it. In fact you may even live longer, but you will definitely live, and sound more intelligent without it.
Best of luck.

Boy are you drunk on that Cool-Aid you have been drinking. You also have NO idea what you are talking about and know NOTHING about 501 c organizations. You can come back and speak when you do a little reading on that subject and learn something. There are MANY 501 c organizations and the Tea Party is just one of them.

This folks is what the Obama kool-aid does, it's worse than drugs. Ohio was brought up by whom Kevyn? The Obama administration tried to blame it on one little field office. The fact is Kevyn the IRS and the treasury department about this a year before and were working together against conservative groups.
