It is very clear how they keep getting elected. It is usually a matter of money -- who has the most to propagandize the electorate. Now that we have Citizens United, corporations have an even greater stranglehold on the electoral process than they used to. What do you think about Citizens United and its effect on the electoral process ? I think the Citizens United decisio0n by the Supreme Court needs to be overturned. To clean up Congress' money sources would go a long way towards cleaning up the entire electoral process.

Forbid anyone from the executive branch of government from being a lobbyist for five years after leaving the government and a lifetime ban on them from lobbying on behalf of a foreign government.

As with all workers Union and Non Union there are good and bad. I was involved with union labor from the management side. When I had a worker who went above and beyond I gave him an envelope with $$ as a bonus the union could never find out about. If he wanted overtime I would wait until other workers left for the day before deciding I needed someone to stay later.
