I roof houses for a living. I misread yesterdays weather forcast and left a house for the evening with 3/4 of the roof torn off. My granddaughter commandeers my laptop every day and my wife was glued to the election news so when I finally got to check on it. The forcast said rain in the middle of the night. Great-- I thought. Well I dodged the bullet and we just had a dewfall just before dawn. I got to the job and every thing was dry. That was awesome and made me very happy.

Don't get to far ahead of yourself. Winter time roofing is a dicey game. I see lots of visquene in my future this winter.

I could never be a roofer. I knew a guy who did it in Las Vegas. Talk about brutal.

It is the hardest work in the world. I'm still at it at age 62. It takes physical strength stamina and courage. Oh yeah brains lots of brains or you have leaks all over.

I have roofed for 30years and roofed almost all types of roofs, barns, domehouses, commercial and in all that time I have never left a roof open overnight therefore never had no problems. Yes it is brutal work. I'm sure glad that I got out of it it takes a toll on your body as mine is shot!

My roof was not exactly open. I had torn off shakes and had felt and 1x4 strips in place but no lock seam metal on. I did not like it. I have been over booked all year and this is a job I had no time for. I have some large projects clamoring for me to get there and people pushing to be first. I have people who try to pay me in advance and they expect me to be God and turn off the weather. Four more years and I am retiring. That is the only thing that keeps me going. . I'm expecting a huge recession soon so I might be forced out of business before that.

Very astute of you on the recession...They are just praying we get through Jan 20th before it' hits...
Sound familiar?? Although this time it's not a housing bubble...

How is your construction growth, BTW...
To look at it here one would not be expecting a recession...

Well I've had 4 knee operations broke my back twice and have artificial tendons in my shoulder take high blood pressure meds but I am still nobody to mess with. If I can crawl to my pickup in the morning I will go to work. I can pack 85 lb bundles up a ladder for half a day and get a roof on in a hurry. I out work younger men and leave them sweating and panting for air. I feel great just getting tired of the pressure. I'll be 66 in a little over 3 years. I'll quit roofing but not living. I'm still raising kids.

I did roofing for 20 years and now I have no discs in my lower back. Be careful and plan for the future. About all I can do now is drive a truck. Yeah my body is shot too. Hard work is good for the soul, but not always good for the body.
