"People say if we die and there is nothingness, then it is not a bad thing, and in most cases I agree with them, however sometimes the concept of nothingness in death scares me none the less, I cannot wrap my head around such a thing, maybe because I think too much."

what do you think?

Given that there is no way to measure conciousness quantitatively, and there is no way to measure accurately when it begins or ends, the question of whether it survives the cessation of chemical reactions we call life is moot.

I have an unfair advantage: I was one of my metaphysical personalit.......... avatars this morning, and as such, was already in the "zone." (No, not the ozone, I can hear your darn mind clicking four states away).

I'm not good at esoteric subjects; too much into what is tangible, I guess. That hardly means I'd scoff at someone who does consider such things such as meaning of life, why are we here, is there a heaven and hell, what happens when we die, etc.
I think the scarier aspect of dying and becoming nothingness is living and dying with no purpose at all--as if we had never been. I'll leave behind a child who I hope will become a better person than I am. Hopefully, I will have made a positive difference to the people I have crossed paths with. I don't think I will do anything that will change the world, but I like to think that I will have done something that contributed to leaving the world a better place.

That, in and of itself, is an admirable legacy, Catpaw.

 Amen. Let your life speak. The journey is the destination. The footprint we leave matters.

YES!! My granny told me when I was a young, single father, that my job as a parent was to teach my kids how to love, respect, and work hard for themselves and others.
I took her advice, and it worked!!
If I I leave nothing else, the world has two more good, kind people.
There you go! You just keep it up!

No, you do NOT think too much!! I think it really admirable that you think so deeply and that it all matters to you this much. I mean it as a compliment when I say you have an "old soul." Safe journey, philosophyman.

If we were not meant to think, why do we have a thinker to think with?

 well, you would "think" so, wouldn't you!! Gives you pause, doesn't it??!!?? In an effort to remain serial, sort of, guessing we have seen enough cases where your comment ought to serve as a "Eureka!!" moment, for those "less engaged" but since they aren't, they wont.
