edwards is doing away with Jindals idea that young men drawing food stamps must work 20 HRS a week or go to some training program like a trade school. that proves the demorats dont want blacks to become independent through training or education. they just want them to stay in poverty depend on government subsidies and vote demorat. this action clearly indicates that he has no respect for the abilities, potential or quality of life of these people; he wants them to remain under control so they will vote democrat.

The food stamp allotment for one person is about $150 per month--- Eighty hours a month violates labor law Divide that amount into $150 and you get about $2.00 per hour. Requiring 20 hrs per week is a deterant to actual work search

Where did you get the idea that only blacks are poor? Here in AR, which has a similar population to Louisiana, 50% of the poor are white and 25% of our richest people - are black.

Making such assumptions are what keep the poor in poverty. Who would hire someone poor? If they had any "get up and go", intelligence or any of the other qualities employers look for - they wouldn't be poor. Although the reality is, those born poor tend to stay poor, until someone teaches them how to get OUT of poverty - and provides opportunities to do so.

The problem with America is, we like to start things, but don't know how to finish them. We come up with elaborate plans to "fix" things, but forget the basics. We like to stop things that aren't working, without coming up with replacements that will.

We chose party over people.

We choose ideology over practicality.

There has to be jobs in order to put the poor to work. Myself I cannot live on $150 a month in food stamps. If I can't find a job I will make one and I will survive without government help. I have been self employed since 1991. I have broke my back twice my neck once in falls from high places. I have had shoulder surgery and 4 knee surgerys. When I was 31 social security sent me a letter and a form to fill out so I could start receiving benefits. It scared the hell out of me and I refused their help. I knew I was unhireable but I did not let that stop me. I do not expect everyone to be able to pull themselves up like I did but I would be a sorry SOB if I took basic food away from people who cannot help themselves. What so ever you do for the least of my people that you do also for me. Jesus said that I believe that. Now expecting something in return for help given is not bad but the work requirement needs to be reasonable and not slavery to your stomach.

Good points and any politician who offers freebees in return for a vote is part of the problem. I was lucky as I had union Carpenter apprenticship under my belt. Trade schools are the best thing for poor people with poor educations and little to offer to the job market. You are a good man- a man of the soil. Have a good Christmas and eat hearty. May Louisiana shine in 2016 :-D

I like Morton too. Here is my sausage recipe. Cut your pork trimmings into 1 inch cubes and be sure to add fat. weigh up all your trimmings and use 4 tablespoons Morton sausage and meatloaf seasoning and one tablespoon ground sage per lb. I mix it in a cup or two of water then dump it on my cubes. I mix it up good and put it covered in the fridge over nite. Then I grind it. I like to fry a patty to taste it before I wrap it up. That way I can adjust my seasoning if I need to. so far I havn't.
