I am Rev. Samuel Meriwether Smith. Yes, I am indeed part of the same Lewis Family of North Carolina and Virginia for which a roughly 3 foot by 4 foot Family Tree Chart is posted in the Kenmore House National Historical Site near Fredericksburg, Virginia. Fielding Lewis married George Washington's younger sister, Betty and together Fielding and Betty has several children and three of their descendants actually were Continental Army or Navy combatants: A Captain Charles Smith - Army; Lieutenant Abraham Lewis Contintnal Navy (Research: "Speaking Trumpet".); and another Lewis whose first name I forget. Lt. Abraham was Captain of a river guarding gunship named Enterprise and his ship and two others guarded West point. The British sunk the other two but he rescued their crews and still fought the British and held WestPoint.

I am also related to Clarks and Mitchells from Ohio through my mother's mother, a Mitchell related to Major George Rogers Clark and his younger brother Will Clark. George and his Continental Army troop drove a British force back across the St.Lawrence River into Canada and later, Will accompanied Meriwether Lewis on the expedition to Oregon.

My father's father's brother's son was Judge Howard Worth Smith (D-VA) who served in the HOuse from 1933 tp 1967, the last 11 as chairman of the powerful House Rules Committee. He had a reputatipon for strict integrity and honesty. His Conservative leadership was a thorn in the sides of both President John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson. At age 84, he was defeated in a primary e******n in Alexandria, VA on the same day that I, at age 29, was defeated in my only try at elected politics. I was the acknowledged and reported FIRST Candidate of either Party in Florida to take the Candidate's Oath. But by that next week end, a family tauma occurred and I recommended that the party run someone against me in a Republican Primary: the first in Florida in 100 years. A much better qualified man was chosen{ a Lt. Commander in the Civil Engineer Corps who had started as an enlisted man and between having more money and sk**ls, easily won the Primary but lost the General. However the extra attention in Florid that I brought to the Reppublican Party helped catapult Claude Kirk into the Governor's office as the first Republican Governor in 100 years!

I am currenty married to my 4th wife of over 20 years and we have 4 teenage sons (18,15, and twins 13). I also have 4 living children from my first marriage, from a daughter, 60; 2 sons, 58 and 57 and another daughter 54. Another son from my first marriage was k**led in a car wreck when he was about 22 about 30 years ago. From my 3rd marriage 1 daughter, 39-1/2.

My life story is in a book pubished by WestBow Press and available by a search for Samuel M. Smith, Author. I have made 3 trips to the Philippines -2 Christian Missions and one to marry. 4 Missionary trips to the former Soviet Republic of Georgia and the city T'bilisi, know in the Bible as Tubal, and 2 missionary Work and Witness trips to Peru, especially Iquitos with side sightseeing trips to Kuelap and MachPichu.
