I just don't see how that is such a large raise considering that the left side of the aisle is pushing for $15 as the minimum pay. Maybe we need to look into what the average federal worker is paid now to see just how much 1% really is.

Can anyone prove that the pay of federal workers in DC is not better than other workers throughout the nation? If so, I guess that Obama didn't buy several thousand v**es with that 1% raise. Surely all those people will v**e for Democrats since they get an $8000 raise next month.

I don't know for sure what Federal employees make. What ever it is it's to much. Lest we forget, we pay them. With around 2 million employees 1% adds up. What ever they make it's 3 or 4 times what enlisted military personnel make.

I read in the link that the federal workers make an average of $74,436 with $40,000 in goodies. Those in DC area make about $88,000 average. Yes, they do make quite a bit more than the average person and 1% is a big chunk. It doesn't sound like so much but a $8800 raise is pretty sizable.

I mean to tell you. Beside all the perks, it's almost impossible to fire or get rid of them. Where as when an employee makes a costly mistake they usually get fire. When a Federal employee screws up, they get promoted.

Hey DWCarmicheal,you guys are always complaining about the wrong groups. So if we were to cut all those sorryass fed emps paychecks like you want/complain about,where do you actually think all the excess, $$$ will go. What happened to all that cash that was found in the hole when Saddam Hussein was caught??? Why weren't you complaining about Bush#2 when he was doing his dirt? Why weren't you crying about all you Amendment rights being violated then? What about all your freedoms you gave up for the Patriot act?? My question is ,what the hell do you expect people to live on? What just because those people are fed emps,they're supposed to live like Walmart workers? Wtf?

One of my boys makes about what the DC government employees do but the other one doesn't make anything close to that. Both of them are at least as conservative as I am so don't bother feeling sorry for them.

Pay raise for the government employees? We should be "tightening our belts" across the board. I would gladly give up 1-3 percent of my social security, if(and only if), congress would control the purse strings of the government, including reducing the aid programs to foreign countries and eliminating the Homeland Security Agency and FEMA and giving all of their duties to the State' M*****as (National Guards). That would reduce the possibility of having two of our federal departments fighting against each other in event of a revolution.

Again with the screwy math, you should be ashamed of yourself, even as a history teacher!

8,800.00 ➗ .1 = 88,000

.1 = 10%

880.00 ➗ .01 =88,000

1%, not ten percent.

I apologize for my ineptness.

Any raise across the board is not such good policy but it is typical government activity.

I'm not saying $880.00 is not big chunk of change, it is just not quite the same as $8,800.00. And I oppose it, but Obama is covering his assets. DC union workers who worked during the shutdown didn't get paid more than DC workers who didn't work. They all got paid the same.

But it was those nasty Republicans that caused that partial shutdown and they all had to be paid, no matter what, because their v**es may be needed in 2016.

Yeah, it would have been different if say 90% of workers had been laid off, but 90% were forced to work during the shutdown.
