I would really like to be able to do what this Santa is doing. There just aren't any homeless people around here, though.

I do not know where you live, but many cities have enacted strict enforcement on the homelessness. They are now mostly underground. If you have a subway system, they go to the tracks that have been closed. Underpasses on the outskirts of town are some other places they congregate. Abandoned factories also make secure places for them to sleep and often live in make-shift homes. The homeless are there, they just try harder to blend in rather than going to shelters. The winter is hard for those living on the streets. Attached is a map of the US, pick your state to see how pervasive the homeless population is in your area. The file is 3 years old, but not much has changed for these people.

HUD also publishes a report every second year, it is broken down by age, race, sex, and so on.

I live in a tiny, rural town and we don't have any of the places you suggest as where homeless people can live. I don't believe that you have to go to a large city to find homeless people but i surely do believe that more Santas like the one in my video are needed in large cities.
