Thank you, Augustus, I was hoping it was just poor communication on my part and not a basic disagreement, though please free at anytime to call me on where you believe I am off. I will attempt to take it graciously.

Wow Rumi, this is really splitting hairs in a very complex way. I don't see an avenue into full T***h, but a run around of partial scripture.
This is the T***h of it provided:
"21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:"

We cannot save our flesh by any means (not even through Baptism), only the Spirit within us is saved by a Good Conscience in the knowledge and Word of Jesus Christ. We simply become conscience of our sins, are able to repent of them, and grow stronger in Spirit as we age, where we sin less.
For anyone to try and be Perfect, selflessness, is not a natural state for the human being of flesh. We are sin due to the fact that as we grew, we saw sin, heard sin, even felt sin, and it is a part of our mind and memory, waiting to be reflected on when not thinking, or being tempted.
If you try to be Perfect while in the flesh, you will fall like a rock in front of everyone, like many prominent religious folks have done. (even tele evangalists) So, selflessness cannot happen and will not happen to the flesh human, only in random moments and acts.
Even the Holy Spirit of God comes upon people randomly as God predetermins, and Jesus Christ states: We don't know where the wind cometh, or where it goeth.
Are you giving this item of selflessness the attention that should be given to God and Scripture?

My view exactly!

And.....all those on welfare and without insurance today.....would have had jobs with insurance and benefits....had not our politicians shipped millions of positions overseas for self enrichment and the enrichment of their "patrons" who provided the money for their e******ns=bought and paid for politicians courtesy of the not so supreme court.
So....can't we cut them a little slack, and direct our vim and vigor at the politicians who are responsible for this. I cannot believe that anyone who had a good salary, home, benefits, etc. could ever desire or be happy losing their home, education, getting welfare. And you ALL know the job situation.

Also, I do NOT agree with Psychology Today's statement.

But, I DO agree with the other.....as I feel I am only doing what I was sent to earth to do.....be the best emissary and representative of Christ I can be.....just stating how I have lived my entire life.

Altruism: . 1. Unselfish concern for the welfare of others or dev**ed to the welfare of others; selflessness.

Is it possible to be actually "selfless"?

The Tao says this: "Perfect kindness acts without thinking of kindness."
Jesus says this: "Do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing."
Janis sings this: "It ain't nothin' if it ain't free, babe."

What is sacrifice without the small or large sting of sacrifice? For it not to be a sacrifice on any level is to be selfless. Can it be done? If so, how could a person come to this state of being? Or is it better called as a state of non-being?

Do you agree with this statement from Psychology Today:
"Altruistic acts are self-interested, if not because they relieve anxiety, then perhaps because they lead to pleasant feelings of p***e and satisfaction; the expectation of honor or reciprocation; or the greater likelihood of a place in heaven; and even if neither of the above, then at least because they relieve unpleasant feelings such as the guilt or shame of not having acted at all."
http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/hide-and-seek/201203/does-true-altruism-exist

Buddhism, Hinduism, and Christianity all assert that achieving a state of actual "selflessness" is not only possible but our one purpose in life. Mystics of every faith believe in and are dedicated to this end. For them it is called "at-one-ment": total union with the Supreme Being.

Here is where this spiritual state of At-one-ment ismentioned in Scripture: (Jn14:20, 15:4-7, 17:26; Rom8:9-10; 1Cor6:17; 2Cor1:21, 5:17, 21; Eph4:13; Col1:27, 3:3; 1Jn2:24, 4:16).

When Jesus said "Love you neighbor as yourself" this was to be taken as literally true: your neighbor is yourself, and so is your enemy. To feed the hungry is not charity, just as fixing oneself a nice breakfast is not charity. We are not giving anything, there is no sacrifice: it is simply what we do out of self-care.

What do you think?

I blame the v**ers, not the politicians. The politicians only do their damage because the v**ers want them to. If the v**ers don't want them to, they can stop them.

All those on welfare and without insurance today.....would have had jobs with insurance and benefits, -- had they not v**ed for the politicians who shipped their jobs oversees, and imposed regulations so high that businesses can no longer afford to stay in the U.S. Will they ever learn to be more careful about how they v**e?

I don't understand how rejecting Christ's teaching, that He is the only way to Heaven, is being any kind of emissary or representative of Christ, much less the best kind you can be.

jay-are----come on. Just HOW do you think v**ers knew politicians would ship their jobs overseas? This began in the 60's...and has progressed slowly, so slowly....just like the rest of the takeover of our lives and this country....imperceptibly slowly....so we wouldn't notice until it was at the precipice......and the question became, "Is it ALL lost...or can we get off our asses and do something about it?"
Are you going to tell me that you have gone through every piece of legislation and can name every bill and those who v**ed for it regarding the subject you have put forward....and v**ed accordingly? You better get googling, jay. This is from BOTH sides. If one doesn't do it, the other party will, and the people and country are left out, especially since 90% of the news is now controlled by 6 corps....courtesy of Powell's son removing all FCC regs on control of the media shortly after Bush took office.....guaranteed in our rights as "freedom of speech". Not very "free" is it, when you get virtually NO news?
Speaking of that, have you heard of TPP? If you haven't, google it.....that little piece of legislation will make NAFTA look like a child's birthday party....and it's being done in SECRET.....no public hearings, or knowledge or input by congress or the senate. I want to hear you roll on that one, jay.

AND......since you seem to be unable to leave the spiritual alone....where did you get I reject Christ's teachings.
I believe in God, the Father; the Holy Spirit, and Christ....and then, there is me....
Do you think I have NOT been baptized? jay....I was one of 12 founders of Crossroads Baptist Church just outside the town where I grew up. Get the bleep real, kid.......and discuss something about which you have knowledge.....which most assuredly is NOT my life...or my spirituality.

And, jay, I am willing to bet that, if YOU researched....unless you are in your early 20's....your v**es, you'd find that YOU have v**ed for someone who v**ed for legislation detrimental to the country. Why don't you check that out......before condemning those without jobs. YOU are ALWAYS SO quick to judge....(remember that the quote you ALWAYS forget to remember).....and NEVER look at yourself. Christ-like....you aren't. Judgmental.....and ALWAYS passing judgment on others....you are.

I can say that I didn't v**e for Ford, Reagan, Clinton, Bush 43, or Obama. I didn't v**e for Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Newt Gignrich, John Boehner, John McCain, Paul Ryan, Lindsey Graham, Kay Bailey Hutchinson, John Cornyn, etc. I did v**e for Ted Cruz.

If I can google it and get the information, it is not very SECRET. If I can google it, so can everybody else, and they can choose not to v**e for people who are supporting TPP. Or they can v**e for Senators and Reps. who will Impeach the President, and anybody else involved, and they will then v**e in people who will stop it and do the right thing.

The fact remains, only the v**ers have the power to make all that happen. Corrupt people only have power to implement their corrupt schemes because the people allow it, either purposely or through apathy.

I got that you reject Christ's teachings when you wrote the following:

oldladyfromwaco
"I believe in reincarnation, so it follows that we return to learn the lessons we wouldn't/couldn't learn before."

and

oldladyfromwaco
"And, my firm belief is that one of the worst claims of religion, any religion, is exclusivity....that one MUST belong to that particular belief. I don't believe God cares how we get "there" "

You reject Christ's teachings. Christ taught against both of those concepts.

Are you actually claiming that you helped found a Baptist church on the belief in reincarnation and multiple gods?

I find that hard to believe.

Your post said the unemployed v**ed FOR those who deconstructed our government. You do not know WHO they v**ed for.
jay.....what I keep trying to get across to you is this.....God has not abdicated His throne and given you all-seeing munificence....and knowledge.
Back to my point of every post......if you don't know what you're talking about, jay.....put a sock in it.....and don't condemn others. Put your brain in gear before you put your mouth and judgment in motion....
You are obviously an intelligent man who cares deeply about God and country. Do something positive, young man....you are gifted.....use where it needs to be. Jump on the politicians! LOL And, jay...I don't mean to be h**eful.....just come off it.....and, as the decades pass, you will learn. You see, I used to be just like y o u.

I suppose you do know who the unemployed v**ed for?

I am saying that the ones who are deconstructing our government got there by being v**ed for. A majority v**ed for the people in office. I assume that means a majority of the unemployed. I don't know, but that is an intelligent guess. If someone got elected, does your "intelligence" tell you that they got less than a majority of v**es? Especially from the unemployed who are begging for government handouts?

When the unemployed stop going to the unemployment office and taking government money I will start to consider that maybe they are v****g against the democrats, or the destroy America politicians, who promise them extended benefits.

Altruism does not exist for jay-are. Then he must be able to boast. If he is able to boast, perhaps not for justification but living by the commandments, then Jay-are has missed the mark.

The only mark Jay-are missed was in articulating his beliefs to others.

Altruism is a corrupt belief that somehow selflessness is the greatest virtue, not love.

Love is a relationship between two selves. It cannot exist in the absence of self.

Altruism is not found in Christianity.
