If McGovern's defeat had been vindicated instead of Goldwater's (in a way that in some ways irritated Goldwater), we wouldn't now be recovering from an economic collapse, the first rumblings of which were heard in the S&L collapse and bailout before we were even rid of Bozo the Republican.

Here's the deal with conservatism: Barry Goldwater was totally wrong for this country, but at least he wasn't a total prick about it. Starting with Reagan, conartistives are still totally wrong for this country, AND they're total pricks about it.
