People say comparing Rump and Chillary is a "false equivalency", but no one has any substantial argument on how. Sure, maybe Clinton would have been able to maintain a veneer of stability better than Trump. But in essence the country would still be dealing with the same problems, and neither party has viable plans for solving problems or dealing with crises. Most people instinctively understood this, hence so few voting for either one. Sure, the Electoral College gave it to Trump, even though most establishment factions were for Clinton. So what happened? And don't give me that "the Russians did it" shite.

Of course the choices we have for President this time around could probably be used to point out that both sides aren't all that intelligent.

This post being some time ago, but I wonder more about, not that each side lack's intelligence, but more towards why the lack of choice coming from both left and right. Even the right having had so many, I still couldn't find one candidate I could align with. Being an independent, it isn't about party, it's about what each individual stands for, and with all that I didn't find any I wanted to vote for, one has to ask...why is that?

Perhaps you are expecting too much. We are all human, after all.
Since you were considering all of the candidates on the right it is confusing that you were considering a Dem or the socialist. I know that I certainly didn't consider any of the Republicans.
There are certain standard positions that make it difficult to stray too far.

Your intellectually dishonest leaps are pretty weak.
Especially in hindsight with the view we have of the lies that people wanted to believe.
You will have to answer for yourself why you wanted to believe them.
I have a hunch, but it really doesn't matter enough to spend my time thinking about it.
