A few years ago I noticed this bumper sticker on a car - I DON'T KNOW - AND NEITHER DO YOU! I got to thinking - that didn't seem very profound. Then I got to thinking more. Back in 2003 Dick Cheney on Meet the Press uttered these words -"There is no doubt that Saddam Hussein has weapons of mass destruction!" And of course this sentiment was reiterated many times by different members of the Bush administration. This kind of rhetoric eventually got us into the Iraq war leading ti the deaths of tens of thousands and later ISIS.

But in fact there was doubt - lots of doubt by CIA professionals and others. This would be a much better world if Dick Cheney had told the t***h. The t***h was that he didn't know. Think of all the terrible events in the history of the world that started with some one or some government that "knew" something - when in fact they did not know. World War One was started because one country "knew" another country was about to attack. Thousands were k**led during the inquisition because the authorities "knew" that the communion wafer was actually turned into the body of Christ. And those who did not believe that were k**led.

As I read some of the above entries, I am struck by many assertions for which there is no evidence. Apparently the guy who wrote the rattlesnake piece "knows" that those men with foreign names are part of some Muslim cabal that is trying to destroy America. Probably he does't know. And hr should say "I DON"T KNOW."

I see you are a newcomer here. Welcome to our site. I agree people SHOULD NOT lie, and Cheney did NOT lie. Neither did Dubya lie. Neither did most of the Congress who v**ed to take out Hussein. The real LIES started when the democrats saw their way to damage the new President whom they despised for not allowing Albert Gore TO STEAL the e******n. They (CONGRESS) sent us to war - THEN began the mantra that "Bush lied. People died". Bush did not lie. Obviously you do not know much about the issues back then and I am not going to waste my time outlining history for you. Any country who waits until there is always ABSOLUTE proof that another nation plans to destroy your country, you are a nation not worth saving because you are so careless and wreckless. Some people can put 2 and 2 together and come up with the logical answer, some cannot. Those who cannot should not be in positions of making decisions about ANYTHING, PARTICULARLY NATIONAL SAFETY. The WORLD knew Hussein had WMD and the WORLD knew he had no compunction re using them. He was an international menace. Governments rely on intel because one person cannot know everything there is to know. Sometimes intel can be wrong, but intel officers are human and can make mistakes. If he LIES, he has committed a horrible crime for which he may have to pay dearly. Intel had Hussein with WMD, the UN had Hussein with WMD and under numberous sanctions, most of the world had Hussein with WMD. Bush went after Hussein the way a President SHOULD (but some do not), by flying it past Congress to get approval......this requires time. During that time I watched convoys of trucks going across the desert, destination, I believe Syria.......that's why precious little WMD were found in Iraq. Had someone followed the trucks, we'd have found tons of DMV that Syria and other M.E. foes now have. Everyone who calls Dubya or Cheney a liar IS A LIAR with venom in his heart.

Oh come on, you know how this works! First, decide what you want to do or want others to do, then modify the t***h to fit, rejecting or suppressing anything that is inconsistent with your goal. It has been that way since the dawn of human civilization. Preachers do it, politicians do it, scientists do it, politicians do it and ordinary people do it.

Some people, who don't yet realize the convenience of this way of deciding the t***h, will do research, ask questions and look at everything they can find on the subject - then decide what is true and decide how they will act on it. It is far easier to decide for yourself what you WANT to be true, then try and find corroborating "evidence" that you are right. Folks have been "reading" the Bible and the Constitution in this manner for generations. That is how folks determined that the American Indian was a savage and beneath God's grace and determined that b****s were animals and w****s given supremacy over them.

That certainly explains why there are so many people with so many different ideas, all of whom believe they are right - and can prove it. If there were only one t***h, then everyone would be on the same page, no? So, either the t***h is highly variable - or folks choose what they will believe and what they will not, based on their OWN criteria. I v**e for the later.

There have been more than 2,000 US Special Forces and US Navy Mobile Ordinance Disposal Unit members deployed to Iraq over the past 4 years. They have been there to find, catalog, and dispose (some shipped to the USA or USA controlled bases) all sorts of weapons of mass destruction.

For you to know in case you are totally clueless about "ordinance", when any item of weaponry is manufactured, it has a serial and at times a actual model or series number, and some even a manufacturing company name on each item. If they are in a storage or shipping container they will also have a "lot" number on them. ALL of these numbers do actually track on a manifest from the originating manufacturer as to where they were shipped to and a date of shipping. This information gives a time frame as to when those "ordinance" were shipped to Iraq. SAD news for you, they had been in Iraq BEFORE Bush or anyone else decided we needed to go to war.

You damned lefties are pathetic.

YOU are the one that "does not know"...and should either educate yourself so you CAN know or just keep your cake hole shut!

Unfortunately when every belief MUST be based on ABSOLUTE FACTS THAT CANNOT BE CHALLENGED, that person is doomed to failure, doomed to be a victim, doomed to realize his or anyone else's potential. Intelligence, attention, logical thinking, can out-do a biased journalist every time on every issue. In this day and age, one can do better NOT paying too much attention to the "news" than he can by listening to lies, reading innuendo, etc. The real problem of today is that so few people have a speaking acquaintance with LOGIC.

tomh... THIS I DO KNOW (because I Researched it BEFORE POSTING THIS REPLY)

VP Cheney was only restating what had been debated during Pres Clinton's Administration...
snopes.com posted:

On 17 February 1998, President Clinton delivered a speech at the Pentagon. Excerpts from that speech include the following comments:

The UNSCOM inspectors believe that Iraq still has stockpiles of chemical and biological munitions, a small force of Scud-type missiles, and the capacity to restart quickly its production program and build many, many more weapons.

In 1998, the Bless-ed "UNITED NATIONS SPECIAL COMMISSION" (that's what UNSCOM stands for) INSPECTORS thought Iraq had WMD...

It is a FACT that Iraq having WMD did NOT START with VP Cheney... Or the Bush Administration... Before Besmirching ANYONE make certain YOU HAVE YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT...

You can't really blame him, Jim. That's what the mainstream media have been saying for years. It always griped me when I heard it but the RINO's would not jump up and clarify things so that is what we have been stuck with. I've seen video clips where Dems have admitted they thought there were WMD's. This whole lie was started by the libs who didn't like Bush and had to crucify him.

Saddam did have WMDs. That was proven.

He didnt have stockpiles of them, just the ability to produce them in a couple of months.

If someone points a gun at your family. Do you assume it is loaded or wait for proof?
