RNC's Priebus in Quiet Talks to Stop New 'Dump Trump' Effort

By Todd Beamon

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus has been quietly talking with state party leaders to stop plans by delegates to nominate someone other than Donald Trump at next month's convention in Cleveland.

However, Sean Spicer, the committee's chief strategist and communications director, denied such a report by CNN.

"This is not an accurate understanding of what's happening," Spicer told the cable network. "Lots of people have conversations and ask questions of the chairman."

According to CNN, two sources said that Priebus had spoken with chairmen in "multiple states" this week to gauge anti-Trump sentiment among delegates.

Priebus has told the party chairmen that he was not behind any efforts to stop a "dump Trump" effort, the sources told CNN.

In the current effort, anti-Trump supporters hope to push the RNC's rules committee to change the guidelines governing the convention to create an opportunity for another candidate, according to the report.

With Trump falling behind Clinton in 12 consecutive polls posted to RealClearPolitics, the whimpy GOP bosses better do something soon or the Clintons will be back home in the White House.

CowboyMilt-Trump has been popular but only with a limited group of republicans (about 30%). The man cannot win a general e******n with those small numbers. It is critically important that the republicans win this e******n and if Trump cannot poll better than he is now, he needs to bow out even if he was the last man left standing in the primaries. The call has to be made by Trump and not some rule change or any other underhanded tactic. We have to understand that Trump received some democrat v**es during the primary which were probably meant to ensure that those candidates who had a better chance of beating Hillary did not survive. Those v**es most likely will not be there for him in the general because democrats, unlike republicans, coalesce around their presumptive nominee. Agree that it is late in the race to change horses, but one has to face reality. PS. Fox Poll today-Hillary's negatives higher than Trumps. So it is a game of negatives. The question remains, can Trump overcome the negatives ? Good Luck America !!!

It's just a matter of time before the anti-Trump people outnumber the pro-Trump mob. Wake up, GOP, you need an actual p**********l type candidate to beat the Clintons. Your borderline narcissist guy is on his way out.

That would have been John Kasich but, because your party was hijacked in 2010 by a bunch of ignorant tea party types, so you are now stuck with the moron. This is a classic example of the GOP failing to see into the future and analyzing the consequences of decisions made. It looked good when the GOP took control of the HOR, but what did they gain? Absolutely nothing but a conglomerate of morons and they are still bent on destroying the GOP.

bmac32-my question exactly. Who do you replace Trump with ? Someone he has defeated ? A new face ? Believe much of this could have been avoided if republican leadership had coalesced around the nominee early on. They left Trump h*****g out there on his own and spent their time trying to find a way to oust him. They are the reason those companies are bailing out and should be out there asking all republicans to boycott everyone of those companies instead of trying to oust Trump using the rules committee. it is the total disarray of the GOP leadership which has led to this and now they are panicking. Good Luck America !!!

Republicans are almost as bad as democrats, they don't listen to the people they listen to the party bosses. When things started Clinton and Bush were headed by both parties only the republicans stood up and clearly said no to a Bush, democrats stood half way up so Clinton was rejected by the young people of the party but the bosses made sure Clinton was the nominee. What I'm seeing is democrats trying to talk for republicans because their very afraid of Trump after all he could end their little game. Some republicans are willing to end the game some are not and where we are today.

I get so fed up with the republican bosses. We, the people, v**ed for Trump mainly because
he was NOT a politician. So now people like Ryan are not really backing Trump, although they
pretend to. All this negativity is driving us batty.

In the game they have been playing in the Public Media where 65% or more do not like either candidate?

I would say do not put any money on there being either one or both candidates on the b****t in November.

The 2 party system could die if either of these two get in.

If one party opens the issue the other may also.

Look at the numbers & then say have the people really have what they want. Or is it just a small part of people who want the party's choices.

The only ones not being driven batty are the true losers from both party whom really don't care which way the country heads.
