You aren't thinking very strategically if you really think that petition would help the Republicans - which for the record, I don't think you do. Dumping the Tea Party would be suicide for them since folks who sympathize with the Tea Party agenda (in a general sort of way) make up a majority of the base! The result would be that the Republicans would NEVER have a majority again; something I'm sure that the liberal strategist who came up with that cockamaimie petition is well aware of and hopes large numbers of i***ts sign on to. Don't you think the Establishment Republicans would love nothing more than to rid themselves of the Tea Party and continue with business as usual in Washington? But they can't! And the Tea Party will force them to put up or shut up. It may take an e******n cycle or two, but it WILL happen. Go ahead and underestimate the intelligence and resolve of your opposition! Its much easier to defeat an opponent who is smug and self-assured. Infantile tactics like that petition only serve to shine a little light on the desperation of those who despise the Tea Party.

Not sure how much of the Republican base is Tea party..It seems the TP actions are hurting the Republican party as a whole...The statements or expressed goals of the TP seem not so bad and would fit with the GOP. However the actions and statement that are made, as reported in the MSM, are of a sort that damages the image the GOP would like to have...Comments and speeches against womens right as seen by the majority of Americans are among the worst of these statements..Forcing the TP views onto other segments of society will not bring these wishes into most of the states let alone the nation..The TP reps now in office seem to be guaranteed ree******n, but an increase in representation is unlikely. The recent shutdown as an example. You may feel to was not forced by the TP group but the majority, including the GOP put the blame right on their heads..

To begin with, there is no official Tea Party. There is no charter, no office, no central location or administration. Its a bunch of individuals and very loosely associated groups that have a few things in common - some of the most common being a desire to shrink the size of the federal government, reduce spending, encourage self-reliance and preserve constitutional rights. Apart from those, the "Tea Party" is pretty diverse. Are there kooks among them? Of course, and the kooks get 99% of the news coverage on certain networks. Don't forget man, the networks are in it to MAKE MONEY and they cater to an audience.

Is the Tea Party damaging the Republicans? God, I hope so!
The Establishment element of BOTH parties are taking terrible advantage of the people. They maintain an incestuous status quo, fighting mock battles with each other to convince their respective constituencies that they care about them, when all they really care about is lining their own nests and amassing power - which they are doing pretty well. The Tea Party is making life difficult for the Establishment Republicans. Conservatives, Evangelicals and Libertarians make up far too much of the Republican base to be ignored any longer. They may even be the majority of the Republican base. The Tea Party did something amazing in this dust up over the ACA/government funding. They forced the Establishment to do something they desperately didn't want to do - go up against the Democrats on the matter. If the Establishment Republicans had refused, the base would have seen what a lying, conniving bunch of punks they were. As it was, they looked stupid from all angles many Republicans who may have been giving them the benefit of a doubt may be looking at them quite a bit more closely now - something else they really want to avoid.

The Establishment Democrats are EXACTLY the same as the Establishment Republicans and its up to the right- thinking Democrat and liberal elements of that party to take these bastards to the woodshed. They are being taken advantage too.
