Polls Schmolls

House Republicans appear poised to cave significantly - It's believed that Friday's poll results are scaring them. How many times have we seen random Man-on-the-street Q&As where the people questioned had NO CLUE at all - about anything! I want to know "who" these polls are questioning - what the exact questions are and then, how many people polled are lying or guessing. Absent that, why should anyone trust the results?

Further, how many of us have started to take an on line poll and stopped because we were given "false or bad choices"? I have, too many times. I don't even take them anymore. With the astounding dearth of informed citizens making up the populous today, any politician who makes important policy decisions based upon Polls, might be likened to a rudderless ship.

Regardless of the wisdom of getting the government open and the debt ceiling raised - at any cost, or not, if the House caves completely in answer to the polls, Polls that may be low in protest of the unprincipled stance too many Repubs are taking, then the cage match that must take place afterwards, should begin immediately and relentlessly to formulate and execute an actual budget and a long term debt reduction plan.

Waiting till a week before the next deadline is yet more legislative malpractice that should be punished by what ever legal means available. Most of these people are truly out of control and totally uncountable as they operate under rules that would never fly in private practice.

To finish the thought on Polls: I dare say there will come a time in the not too distant future when we'll look back and shake our heads in utter horror and disbelief at how "we" could have been so dependent/misguided/manipulated by POLLS.

House Republicans appear poised to cave significan... (show quote)

Polls schmolls is what Hannity, Rove, and many others said prior to the re-e******n of president Obama. "They are skewed." "It is a liberal conspiracy." "All pollsters are in league with the One World Government." Question everything is a solid intellectual principal; doubting or denying everyhing that challenges one's biases, without playing Devil's advocate with those pre-suppositions, is an a*********n.

With virtually everything being manipulated, it's a wonder anyone will take a stand based on current "information".

Has anyone forgotten the reaction of Rove et. al. the morning after Obama's second e******n? They couldn't possibly believe they had lost !

Many of these right-wingers are simply evidence-proof. Their refusal to accept much of reality, including science, is why Bobby Jindal made that famous statement that the Republican Party has got to stop being "The Party of Stupid."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/09/government-shutdown-republicans-poll_n_4069254.html?

Interesting reading - Excerpt from above site: The poll found that the tea party is more than a gang of malcontents in the political landscape, as its supporters in Congress have been portrayed by Democrats. Rather, it's a sizable — and d******e — force among Republicans. More than 4 in 10 Republicans identified with the tea party and were more apt than other Republicans to insist that their leaders hold firm in the standoff over reopening government and avoiding a default of the nation's debt in coming weeks.

Most Americans disapprove of the way Obama is handling his job, the poll suggests, with 53 percent unhappy with his performance and 37 percent approving of it. Congress is scraping rock bottom, with a ghastly approval rating of 5 percent.

Indeed, anyone making headlines in the dispute has earned poor marks for his or her trouble, whether it's Democrat Harry Reid, the Senate majority leader, or Republican John Boehner, the House speaker, both with a favorability rating of 18 percent.

And much of the country draws a blank on Republican Ted Cruz of Texas despite his 21-hour Senate speech before the shutdown. Only half in the poll were familiar enough with him to register an opinion. Among those who did, 32 percent viewed him unfavorably, 16 percent favorably.
*************************
"Much of the country draws a blank on Republican Ted Cruz" And we're suppose to take these things seriously! - T***h be told, much of the country would draw a blank on anyone who hasn't been lampooned by SNL or the Daily Show- That is, in the last 24 frickin hours. The biggest difference between Tea Party citizens and the rest of the folks, is that Tea Party Patriots know who the frickin Speaker of the House is. Hell, they might even know who the Defense Secretary is. And they have a clue as to the significance of the Constitution in today's political affairs.

Stupid is absolutely everywhere - Left, Right and all around the town. The ONLY thing that makes this country ungovernable, particularly now, is the elevation of stupidity to an asset. Why? because you can fool stupid EVERY TIME.

Being guided by polls is taking direction from people who would otherwise have no opinion at all due to total carelessness. Or worse; have an opinion based entirely upon the hearsay of the particular bubble they exist in.

Somebody important calls them up and asks their precious opinion, and they got one: "Is the government shutdown good or bad?" Ans: "Shutdown bad" - "Who's fault?" Ans: "Dems/Repubs fault". Really? Who cares what they think!!! ALL polls should be started with three basic questions regarding our form of government or someone involved it it that any semi-informed citizen should know, then they might proceed to place the fate of the nation in their otherwise disinterested hands. :-D :?:

Ever wonder if the polls didn't match the e******n results due to e******n day chicanery? There were in fact turnouts that were greater than 100% in some districts and districts where Romney didn't receive 1 v**e - among other irregularities. This completely apart from ELECTRONIC v****g machines - Nothing could have gone wrong there. Don't know if it's true, but I believe it's possible. Fact is, I don't trust the v****g system in this country anymore and for a number of reasons.
