Forget Protestant or Catholic - the largest religious group in the current Democrat coalition is "none," according to the latest survey from Pew Forum.

The general survey of the spiritual faith of Americans was conducted by interviewing 35,071 adults on landlines and cellphones between June and September 2014 but just released now.

The poll found that 46% of Americans experience a deep sense of "wonder about the universe" at least once a week and belief in God ranged from a low of 80% among younger Americans to 92% among older Americans.

But among those describing themselves as Democrats, 28% said they identified as the "unaffiliated" meaning atheists, agnostics and those with no religious affiliation.

That is an increase from just 19% of Democrats identifying that way in 2007.

The second biggest group for Democrats were those identifying as Catholic at 21% and Evangelical at 16%.

Among Republicans those who identified at "unaffiliated" stood at just 14%, half of the Democratic level.

The largest religious group among Republicans was Evangelical Protestant at 38% followed by Catholic at 21%, the same level at the Democrats.

You only need to look at the billion plus MUSLIMS and how commited they are to Allah God to see how stupid religion actually is. DOC110 I know what the post was about... I read it. And although it is somewhat encouraging that people are starting to smarten up the fact is that the overwhelming majority of Americans are still clinging( like turds) to the fairy tale religion of antiquity.

Jeff-this country was founded on Judeo/Christian principles. When we adhered to those principles the country prospered but now that we have veered away, the country is foundering. That can't be true...our country has always been ravaged by natural disasters and wars. Look at the history of the civil war, probably the worst time in american history. There was no pornography, drugs, gay marriage ,a******n ect ect...but ohhhhhh noooo..it was the worst period in american history. So if you claim GOD is punishing for modern society, then how do you explain God punishing us during the 1860's?

Jeff-God gave us free will. He is not punishing us. Conversely, we are doing it to ourselves. In a secular progressive society murder has become as common as childbirth while thievery, and assault on others is a way of life. Years ago a rifle was a means of k*****g game and feeding ones family. Today it is viewed as a necessary means of self protection. This is just the beginning. Once the Muslims take over all infidels will die. When that happens, God will be there to welcome his children with open arms-that includes you. Good Luck America !!!

Maybe it's time for the religious zealots to recognize that atheism is NOT a religion. Atheism does not have an arbitrary dogma to which atheists subscribe. It is simply not believing in a god, no different from not believing in the Tooth Fairy. Atheists (other than activist crackpots) don't campaign against religion or give a rat's derriere about religion. They just don't buy into the idea of a god.
