37 Years Ago Today...
Well I Wasn't Doing to Say Anything But My Ego Got The Best of Me... Don D.
37 Years Ago Today I Walked Very "Shackingly" (new word) To My First AA Meeting in Fremont, CA And Haven't Had A Drink Sense...
AA Isn't For "Sissies" One Must Want to be Sober More Than Anything Else...
We All Start Out "Dry" Meaning Without Alcohol, Then Reality Sets In And We Realize One Reason We Drank Was Reality Sucks!!!
That's When The "'Program'" its in "The Big Book", Named Alcoholics Anonymous, Our Fellowship Board The Name With Bill Wilson's Permission, Bill Was One Of The Co-Founders of AA, The Other Gentleman Was Dr. Bob Smith...
Anyway, After You Figured Out You Have To Change 'Everything' You'er to Scared to Go Back to Drinking And You Know You Can't Stay Sober With Out The Fellowship, You're Left With No Choice But To Do The Program [Do The Deal!] (as written, kind of like The U.S. Constitution, it works best when you don't try to change it!)
So Obviously I Did The Work And While I Was Doing That I Helped Sponsored Several Guys And Have Had Some Very Good Sponsorship Myself...
God Had in Mind For Me To Move To Different Areas, And I Started a Copy of The Fremont Fellowship That Got Me Sober (Saved My Life) So I Did What I Knew...
I Had The Idea To Start These "Fellowships" And With Help From Other AA'ers I Did It 7 Times, 6 Are Still Open Today...
(1) Sacrament, CA;
(2) Mesa, AZ;
(3) Encinitas, CA;
(4) Mesquite, NV;
(5) Edisto Island, SC;
(6) Mazatlan, Sinola, MX
(7) El Cajon, CA (Helped);
(8) Cabo San Lucas, Baja Sur, MX (Closed)...
So Its Been an Adventure, Heart Attacks, Open Heart Surgery With 5 Bypass's, Couldn't Stop Me From Being Happy, Joyous & Free...
Safe, Sane & Sober, Well Two Out of Three Ain't Bad, Ha...
If You or a Friend Are Having a Drinking Problem, AA Works, IF You Live it...
As Bob Hope Use To Say: THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES ... Don D.

Praise God Don. I am grateful you are sober and free. I too have struggled with alcohol and would not wish alcoholism on Obama or my worst enemy. It is a living hell. AA helped me a lot also. But God and fellowship helps me the most. I give all the glory to Him. I spend a lot of time in The Word, prayer, group Bible study and fellowship with other Christians. However, I have been considering going to a few meetings again. Most of the ones nearby do not exist anymore and that is a little disheartening. However there are tons of them in the major city that my little town borders on. So, not a problem to go to some of these. Bless you for your service work brother. :thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup:
Good for you, stay sober and be happy... Don D.

Yes it was, but looking back it was what I had to do, and with the help of God and the people I was able to do the impossible... Don D.

Thanks Don. I was thinking about it because it is a positive thing that helps me and others. I just know for me it is important to stay busy and helping others is always at the top of my list. I do some ministry work with Christian men who have also struggled with alcohol, drugs, being in and out of jail, etc. I was surprised a while back at how many men in my different study groups at church had struggled with alcohol. A lot of them. None are drinking now but thinking I was different kept me away from church for many, many years. I also know there are many Christians in AA. Some of the younger crowd in the meetings I attended a few years ago don't seem as comfortable talking about God or Jesus in meetings as they did back in the day. But that is a reflection of our society in general. Regardless, it has been my experience that many who get sober come to believe in God, many in Jesus and many who return to their previous churches. Regardless, I know they need to save their ass first in most cases, then can consider saving their soul. Thank you for offering your help and I may take you up on it. I want to get a directory and see if I can find what meetings are available close to me. I looked on the computer and was surprised. Like I said there used to be quite a few here. The computer sights may be outdated and incomplete. I'll let you know soon what I find out.
I will be available to you if needed... Don D.
