Let us put aside all disagreements and selfish thoughts for a moment to remember all of those lost on this day in 2001. The lives lost were not American, they were not any nationality, religion, or race. They were what we all are, just human beings trying to make a life for themselves and their families. They loved and were loved, their lives all had meaning, and they will all be missed. This is not a time for hatred, this is not a time for vengeful thoughts, it is not a time for anger. This is a time that belongs to those who's lives were cut short through a senseless act of violence, and to all of those who valiantly lost their lives trying to save them. This day also belongs to those who committed this horrible act for some where out there is a mother, a father, who remembers a laughing child in their arms who was loved, not a monster. I imagine many tears have joined my own on this day since I awoke and saluted the sunrise far to the east. A place I have never been but is as precious to me as my own home town.
For all who were lost, let the bell toll. God Bless Them All.

Great post until the end. Mothers and fathers raise sons to be something better and to have more than they, but some raise their children in religions that are filled with h**e. Where k*****g anyone who they consider an infidel is sanctioned. Sorry, but those mothers and fathers do not deserve my respect. I wish that I were better, that I could forgive, that somehow my soul would be rid of that h**eful day, that I had not been at the Pentagon, that I had not lost friends, colleagues, and people I respected. Perhaps in another few hundred years I will be alright with what happened and can feel something positive for the Muslims in general. For now, I will not do anything harmful to those who live near me, nor advocate violence toward them, but I will keep my eyes open and will not hesitate contacting the authorities if it appears that they are not peaceful.

How long did it take the nation to heal from the attack at Pearl Harbor? How could you expect this nation to heal any faster? 12 years may be sufficient for you, and I am glad you are at peace with it, but it is not enough for me and most of my friends, some who still work in Crystal City and the Pentagon.

Is any life more or less precious than any other? Even if as you say they were raised to be terrorists (so to speak) that simply means that they as individuals had no choice in how their lives unfolded. Is that not in itself a tragedy, a lost life? The thing about anger and hatred is that it perpetuates itself through a single minded rationalization of why it exists. It is so easy to be absolutely right when you have the ability to ignore any other option. You did not know these men as individuals, you have no concept of who they were, or how they were raised before they decided to commit this act. Your hatred is based solely on your own beliefs of who they were, not the t***h because you have nothing to base t***h on but a slight moment of time. At the moment of his death Jesus asked his father to forgive those who had k**led him, for they knew not what they did.

I do not know bmac, us humans seem to thrive on conflict, we seem unable to live in harmony with anything, least of all our fellow humans.

We all have choices. Free will given to us all by God himself. I am not a good woman, I could never live up to the standard of Jesus' plea for his murders. I said that I wish I could stand on the high ground with you, but it is still so raw and painful. You are, of course right, I did not know these men nor their families. I am glad that you are such a good person and can overlook the murders of the men, women, and children that were in the Twin Towers and those at the Pentagon, and let us not forget the people on flight 93 and feel sorry for those who planned and k**led each of them. I am sure that God smiles at you and is shaking his head at my feelings. I just can not help it at this point.

This is what Jude, the brother of Jesus Christ says: Wow unto them, for they have gone the way of Cain... they speak evil of things that which they know not. Brute beasts... in those things they corrupt themselves. They are spots in your feasts of charity when they feed with you, feeding themselves without fear. Clouds without water, trees whose fruit withereth without fruit, "twice dead" (meaning the physical death, and spiritual death). Raging waves of the sea, waundering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever. You suppose that might be a black hole waiting for them??????

You give me to much credit, this is the first year that I have been able to start to move on. God does not judge us on the thoughts of our minds, he waits and listens for the t***h of our hearts to reach his ears. This does not happen at the same time for everyone, but he always waits. I think next year may be just a little easier for you.

I hope you are right. I do not like my feelings and I am trying hard to let it go because I do believe that God judges us by what is in our minds and hearts. I do not want to go to judgment with this burden on my heart. So, each day I ask for help and guidance knowing that God keeps his promises. That is wh**ever you ask in faith will be delivered. I know that one day I will awaken with a lighter heart and I will be able to talk to my friends about their wives, children, and husband who was lost that day. I keep in touch with them and each year it gets easier to make that phone call on 11 Sep. Thank you for the words of encouragement.

A type of human thrives on conflict and they are victims of their own nature.

Some of us thrive off harmony and there are those who thrive off adversity for the sake others so they can live in harmony.

Human nature can be a beautiful thing but it can also be the darkest of nightmares. In the end do we choose to let the better of us to take control how we live or do we allow our more primal urges command the level of depravity to be devolved into a society of hedonists and predators?

9/11 reminded us as Americans we are not invulnerable to the ugly fact there is a danger in the world beyond our borders.

9/12 showed us as Americans we can stand united if we let political devices go by the way side and let the love of country and fellow countrymen take precedence.

12 years later we are still trying to pick up the pieces...

I read an article saying essentially the same thing today, an article by John Ransom. The thoughts in it and in this post are wonderful and kind. Of course on 9/11 I will always think of those who lost their lives as that was an attack on our nation. Those lives were no more sacred than any of our lives, but they were innocent victims maliciously k**led. Americans abhor the deliberate k*****g of innocent people. Can we, should we, feel closure? I doubt we should. We need to remember these atrocities.
