Windows 8

I just purchased a new HP laptop. Nice machine.

It came with Windows 8 installed. While I purchased it with the idea of backing up to Windows 7, I have decided to give 8 a try.

One consideration clouding my pre-opinion was all the negative press about 8 not being able to run legacy software, no start button and that weird opening screen. It looks like it was designed for school children and liberals. Even Apple could not conceive such a stupid interface.

Anyway. As I proceed I am finding some pretty nice features.

One thing I dislike is this OS wants to take over and take care of me just like the liberals want to handle my health insurance. While you are working away, Windows is signing on and downloading all kinds of stuff without any input from me.

I am using a Hughes satellite system for the internet. I pay a hefty fee for the privilege of talking directly back and forth to the satellites, and I do not want my band width doubled or tripled.

More later, as I learn....

My spouse and progeny H**E Windows 8. My new laptop, are you proud of me or what that I finally have a laptop, has Windows 8. I am at an advantage as I KNOW NOTHING about Windows 7, 6, 5, 4, 3.....

We will be learning together; however, I have a much BIGGER learning curve.

I have a new computer due to arrive September 3, and have noticed that there are several apps that make Windows 8 operate like windows 7. Several of these sound workable and CNET gives them a good review. Anyone know anything about these apps?

Hey. Make not fun of my hat size. Else the "bell curve" will toll for you also.

Funny. I would have guessed you as a Apple radical.

Go figure.

I've tried all three browsers-IE, Firefox and Chrome-and prefer Chrome. It seems faster and is easy to use and a good se******n of apps in their store.

I bypassed Windows 8 by recently buying a new computer online that still features Window 7. There are still plenty out there.
I know that my cherished Power Desk Pro 5.0 works fine on 7 but on 8. I plan to hold on to 7 until I'm the last person using it on the planet.

Considering 95% of all school systems are on Windows 6 or 7, and historically school systems are slow to upgrade technology, there will be many with you.
