Name calling and Insult: the new political intelligensia

Ugliness matters. Finding the worst thing you can think of to say about someone expressing a different opinion than your mortal and limited opinion, in America (home of the free with a First Amendement and based on a bicarmal system), has become "political discourse." Or dissing the course of the opposite party.

Facts are intrusive it seems for some. The ideofactoid reigns supreme: "I heard" and "Everybody knows" substitute for evidence. Anything that disputes a belief or opinion is a Right Wing distortion of t***h or a Left Wing suppression of t***h. Radical blogsites for the Right are telling the "facts" that "the media" (utterly manipulated and controlled by Soros in conjunction with the NWO [New World Order] and guided by a book and teachings of Allinsky) will not allow revealed. Unsubstantiated allegations by the Right are only "unsubstantiated" because of NWO suppression. Have no proof, ergo, proof of this suppression.

The Left is not innocent. There are a number of members here that regale in insult and namecalling, it appears even more than answering the subject at hand with any substance. Wh**ever the topic, these Lefties simply use it as a medium for derogatory comments.

WPT is a movement started by AuntiE and quicky endorsed by several, and exclusively conservative, members. It can be best called the "Civility Doctrine." What is lost by remaining civil? Reverse that question: what does one think is gained by incivility? That is probably more to the point.

Calling "a spade a spade" sounds good but it is hubris: bridges are for the emotionally and intellectually mature.

I am unsure of exactly what you are accusing me. Did you mean WPD? At this point, I will make no further comment.

Quid Pro Quo, rumitoid: Talk to your boy LuLu and tell him to stay off my posted threads and posts, and I will stay off his posts. He has no posted threads, and apparently doesn't know how. I have made that request a number of times to him, which seem fair and reasonable, but he thumbs his nose, as he likes what he does. But if it happened, it would clean up a lot of the mindless vacuous picuyone useless drivel and allow for more reasoned discussions.

Accusation is personal; but my thread by no means had anyone particular in mind. Except in regards to Watching Paint Dry (WPD). I was praising your efforts for civility, but apparently totally bungled it.

I am not friends with Lou and his style of argument is counter to mine.

Civil discourse is always the best way to debate issues. Unfortunately, many times frustration leads to emotional outbursts. Most people on this forum put forth their ideas and opinions in a civil manner until certain participants resort to insults and name calling. This leads to anger and some feel that letting those people get away with it without responding in kind is tantamount to "agreeing" to what was said about them.

Sometimes, folks say something on this forum that many take as "t***h" when in actuality, it is only one's "opinion". Many opinions are not necessarily founded in "clinical research" of a subject, but simply a "feeling" based on a collection of many different inputs over a period of time. It doesn't make the opinion right or wrong, just an opinion.

It does take a lot of "character" to be insulted and called derogatory names and still remain civil toward the person doing the insulting. Sometimes, what is said on this forum is a result of how a person is feeling at the time of the post. Did a relative just pass away? Did a person just get a divorce? These and other factors may affect how anyone responds at any given time. However, I think we can all spot those that are always insulting in all their responses and do so from their first response to their last. Pity these people because they usually have nothing else to contribute.

You did "totally bungled it". Further, we did not restrict our guest list to conservatives. Perdition, we included you. None of our other more "progressive friends" seemed interested in the WPD event. Further, we were willing to throw a "shower" for the twins Doppler and Duppler.

I did not limit my list.

Nor did we. I actually believe if some who disagree vehemently on line were to be in an interpersonal setting (WPD Event) the rhetoric would change. I have said to you before it is a venting of angst in a less interpersonal setting.

As a personal note, you have not declared your support for my candidacy for president. 8-)

I have to agree. I try to remain civil. However, I grew up in a rough neighborhood, if you didn't fight back you were toast. I'm afraid some of that still stays with me almost fifty years later.
