Our friends on the right constantly refer to those of us who take the 'general welfare' clause seriously as communists, tyrannical, and other such defamatory names. They fail to understand that activism and social change are part of the fabric of our country. "Leftists" are as American as hot dogs and apple pie.

I was sick of the sparring and insults and people agreed with me, a place of respite.

First I'd like to say that I appreciate your position. The abuse you received in the open forum was as bad as that being heaped upon KHH1 right now. I can't say I blame you for the way you think about allowing conservatives to post here.

I also think that you are in a good position (if it is correct that you are a moderator) to make this a 'no insult' zone. America Only proved the other day that some folks should not be allowed to post here. He is an insult to all us....that appears to be his purpose.

But America Only is also an insult to conservative thinking. There are some conservatives who do argue points without the condescending attitude one finds in the pack on the main forum. Just as they need liberals in the main discussion room ( otherwise they would be just patting each other on the back and congratulating each other), we-i.e. liberals- also need to have our thinking checked with those who might not agree with us, for the same reason.

I don't really know if the poster to whom you responded was stirring up trouble. I do know that respectful and humorous airing of views and differences helps me with my own thinking. I am a liberal, but I do not automatically always disagree with conservatives. Sometimes I do agree with them, and sometimes I need to find a way to integrate what they say with my own thinking.

But, of course, it's your call as you have organized this space. And like I said, considering the abuse hurled your way, I'm going to respect your decision and participate either way.

This space is for all of us, however.
WMD is someone I chose not to interact with for the most part in Main and I have no interest in conversing here.
We shall see. The point is for everyone to be comfortable.
