They were talking that way because in New Hampshire the people made so much noise about them filling their truck with diesel in stations. Of course, the New Hamps are pretty liberal in thought and got really mad when these people told them to stay away from South Carolina with their mixture cars or at least stay away from serious wrecks down there.
