They were most memorable on the Lassie TV show of the 50's...the old wall phones with cranks.

Thanks, OldGringo. You brought back another memory, although one I only touched on infrequently at my country cousins' houses "in the sticks"!

You are, indeed, an OldSalt!

My immediate guesses would be Howdy Doody, Mickey Mouse, and Mr. Rogers.

I hesitated because, What time is it, it's Howdy Doody Time, not it is Howdy Doody Time.

Who's the leader of the band, that's made for you and me, Mickey Mouse, Mickey Mouse. Band, not gang.

I just had to assume Mr. Rogers, but somehow uneasy.

Whew! I might not ever have forgiven myself. You can blame Clarabelles' visible presence in my memories, along with ANNETTE, but no recognizable memory of that time for me and Mr. Rogers. I did, however learn of him as a parent.

Ah, yes...ANNETTE!

By the way, I thought you were only around ???, not old enough to remember the 50's?

It's Pinky Lee time, it's Pinky Lee time. I fail to remember the rest of the song.

My favorite memories of growing up during the 50's included (all in the city)being able to catch fish and crawdads in the neighborhood creeks, helping my grandmother pick greens and peas, trying to pick off lizards with slingshots, dipping girls pigtails into inkwells, watching shows like "Red Ryder"w/Little Beaver, collecting and selling "coke" bottles at .03 each to make spending money, and making enough to have a good time. And, yes, there was a little redheaded girl that I worshiped from afar, yet never talked to her in the few years we went to school together. She never really seemed to appreciate the fact that I never approached her...or maybe she did!?!
Boy, did I ever want a Red Ryder BB gun!

.03? I only got .02 for the ones I collected

One of my favorite "antique"s. :-)

As a personal note, I was abysmal at maintaining my course with the spray. The headaches remerged. Two doses, two days in a row helped tremendously.

Also, did you tell me an individual can obtain sassafras tea at a health food store?

I remember .03 in the mid-fifties, maybe late fifties, but I could be wrong. I'm old, I do forget some things. The drinks, I think, were .05, and only in 6 1/2oz. bottles, plus the .03 deposit. I'm talking Dr.Pepper and Coca-Cola, the two big drinks in Texas while I was growing up. The others were well behind in popularity. Pepsi was almost non-existant. R.C. Cola was weak, in sales, but I was aware of it. 7-Up, and assorted fruit flavors filled in the voids. Big Red was also available. This was all before cans...without pulltabs. We used bottle openers for most our drinks, but they were available at the end/side of the large cooler chests. I could reminisce forever. I must go, for now.

I yield to the possiblity that you are either right, or we are talking a different few years in time frame. In any event, I
made enough as a young kid selling coke bottles to enjoy life at the time.

Come on, OldGringo, you know I yield a few years to you. That's how you gained the edge in being so debonaire! Besides, inflation had started to set in.

I remember Pinky Lee, and his little bowler cap, and checkered (I believe) outfit, but not sure about Winky Dink.
It may spring to mind later.

It may be less about years. It may be different areas where local stores offered more to assure the bottles were returned. Recycling in its earliest form.
