Great advice from a wise man, hard as it is to follow.

Many people are not hard of hearing, they are hard of listening.

Even some of those that do listen only hear what they want to hear.............

This tune by Mike and The Mechanics comes to mind. For some reason, I always think of my late Dad and our 'discussions' upon hearing this song, 'The Living Years.'

Every generation blames the one before
And all of their frustrations come beating on your door
I know that I'm a prisoner to all my Father held so dear
I know that I'm a hostage to all his hopes and fears.
I just wish I could have told him in the living years.

Crumpled bits of paper filled with imperfect thought
Stifled conversations I'm afraid that's all we've got
You say you just don't see it he says it's perfect sense
You just can't get agreement in this present tense
We all talk a different language talking in defense.

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late when we die
To admit we don't see eye to eye

Se we open up a quarrel between the present and the past
We only sacrifice the future it's the bitterness that lasts
So don't yield to the fortunes you sometimes see as fate
It may have a new perspective on a different day
And if you don't give up and don't give in, you may just be okay

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late when we die
To admit we don't see eye to eye

I wasn't there that morning when my Father passed away
I didn't get to tell him all the things I had to say
I think I caught his spirit later that same year
I'm sure I heard his echo in my baby's new born tears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years.

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late when we die
To admit we don't see eye to eye

That scares the pants off of way too many people. What happens if I find out - that I was WRONG? Better to keep flapping my lips, than find out that I was only moving bad smelling air around.

I believe really listening is becoming a lost art form. Most of the time while you are speaking to another person, they are not listening to you but rather thinking of their next comment back to you.

My Grandmother would be talking with me as a child. The woman had a sixth sense regarding weather you were listening or not. When she was sure you were not she would simply ask: "Ever wonder why God gave you two ears but only one mouth?"

I have learned a great deal by simply listening carefully to people. I don't always do this but I try. Sometimes, I have learned I was dead wrong about somethings.

Whether you are wrong or not depends on which vessel you are using. I will let you know when you are wrong.
