Doesn't it seem odd that these events have been happening for thousands of years, and now people want to freak out because information is spread now so easily with media?

G****l W*****g fear mongers, etc., make lots of money on it..Just look at Al Gore...

Sorry, but I see it all as cyclic in nature....The Earth is going to do what it does and has done since its existence regardless of what "we do" to it...Arguably we could and should take measures to insure, clean air, clean water, etc but the rest is beyond our control~~

Don't be sorry, lindajoy. GOD created the earth (and us), and will sustain his creation.
Vanity vanity.
Yep. You can bet on the fact that Al Gore and his ilk are making the millions to fly their jets, drive their 5 mile/gallon SUVS , and run up thousands of dollars in electricity bills while peddling their bs.

Of course, speaking from observations of the other side of that coin, I was quite sorry I didn't pay attention about the typhoon that was coming, bending in the walls of the house I lived in and quite thankful later on down the road to know in advance that those hurricanes I was going to have to hunker down in were coming and prepared accordingly. Yes, these things do cause panic in the streets, but frankly I'd rather know what's coming....

Right now we, in Saint Louis, are just flood and flash flood watch. It is the midwest though. If I wanted to tempt fate then I could throw up a tent at one of the local parks and tornados would pop out of nowhere. :)

Tornadoes seem to be encountered more frequently in VA than they once were. I've only experienced a very small one and have to say I wasn't enthralled. Our house was built in 1910 and we laugh when the stern warnings are given about seeking shelter in a basement or other supposed safe shelter. This house has none!! We would be safer outside. Our philosophy has become "time to fix some popcorn and sit out on the front porch and prepare to be entertained." Probably a bit fatalistic....

My mom and dad have a shed on their property that was built back then. It looks kind of shabby until you go and try to put a nail in it. That thing is like petrified wood or maybe it's really iron that was made to look like wood. If you don't drill a pilot hole, you will bend every nail you try to place.

But, yeah, for sure tornadoes are not fun!

I think every structure on this farm still standing has sections of the kind of wood you describe!! Don't laugh....yeah, go ahead....but I once used a cattle prod to discourage a raccoon instead of the firearm I had in my other hand because I was afraid the bullets might ricochet off that unreasonably tough wood the barn was built with!!
