I have seen the photo before and it looks like a Dogue de Bordeau crossed with either an English mastiff or a Neopolitian Mastiff (pardon spelling) Many of the animals claimed to be American Pit Bull Terrier or American Staffordshire Terriers are cross bred dogs. All those breeds are related as are the Bull Mastiff, English Mastiff and Cane Corso Mastiff and the DNA is very similar The casual DNA services are much less than accurate and several breeds had to be constituted after WWII so the DNA is not really reliable. By the way, our friend Diane who has been breeding Welsh Terriers for 40 years and knows 10 to 15 generations behind all her dogs, many personal had one of her top winners run through the "Find out what kind of dog you have" service advertised the most and they told her it was a Fox terrier beagle cross, so don't count on that to be all that reliable. In some areas where "Pit Bulls" are illegal the DNA services will say your dog is an American Bulldog cross so you don't have to worry about the legality of owning one.

It is extremely entertaining Don and if you are a dog lover like I am, it is almost spiritual!

I had a Border collie mix that was way more protective than my pedigree German shepherd. I have went the way of the animal shelter these days and, I now am pretty stupid over a terrier mix.

I love both cats and dogs but, hangin' heads out the window while I drive 90 mph just seems to rub cat's fur the wrong way ya know?

the only thing about those dogs is they can be easily trained to be mean usually done by young males because they think a mean dog = mean boy

Interesting.
We have a friend who bought a pure bred pit bull who says he goes back for 10 generations of fighting dogs. No he didn't buy him to fight. He wants to train him to hunt hogs.
The dog is as sweet as he can be, and gets along well with other dogs, kids, everyone. He is just another dog to us.
My question is, I guess about his size. He seems to be little compared to what most people call pit bulls. He is about the size of my kelpie, lean, and very muscular.
Maybe you can help?

The ones from fighting stock, according to "Tenacious Guard Dogs" written by one of the prime researchers in those breeds (can't find the book to tell you who wrote it, it is on one of my five bookcases filled with dog books) are usually 35 to 50 pounds, lean and agile, very muscular, never cumbersome. Probably fits your friends dog to a T.

Yep. That would be it!!
I think he is a good dog. I also think that the breed has been demonized because people have used them for their own pourposes, and not loved them as a family member.
Shame what humans do to animals....
