Trey Gowdy Warns Democrats: You May Benefit From Supporting Obama Today, But You’ll Regret It

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), along with the numerous other Republicans, have attempted to defund Obama’s executive actions on immigration this entire week.

Republicans are arguing that, while the Obama administration has the right to make immigration enforcement a priority, it is not acceptable for the President to rewrite laws so that they align with his own polices.

Today, Gowdy warned Democrats that if they go along with the President’s executive action on immigration, they will regret it for years to come:

“You may benefit from the president’s failure to enforce the law today.”

“But I’ll make you this promise. There will come a day where you will cry out for the enforcement of the law. There will come a day when you long for the law to be the foundation of this republic.”

During a House Judiciary Committee hearing, Gowdy argued that Obama does not have the right to reward i*****l i*******ts with legal protection and U.S. work permits.

He said that Obama’s choice to ignore legal advice should result in an indictment. Gowdy concluded his speech by saying:

“So you be careful what you do with the law today, because if you weaken it today, you weaken it forever.”

As of Tuesday, Senate Republicans said they will split the proposed comprehensive immigration bill into smaller parts to be v**ed on separately.

Hey guys, realistically, we're not that bad of shape in the House. Sure, there are some RINOs, and Boehner is not the best leader, but we have a lot of new conservative blood in the House. Plus, the uprising against re-electing Boehner as Speaker, has helped to push him more to the right. It is the Senate where we have the problems...way too many RINOs, plus a gutless Majority Leader.

JMHO-I sincerely believe that Mitch McConnell would defund both amnesty and Obamacare if it were possible. He just does not have the v**es. He needs 60 v**es to both open and close debate on a bill and has only 54. If the democrats continue to filibuster, there is absolutely nothing McConnell can do within the Senate rules. He can invoke the nuclear option with 51 v**es and suspend the Senate Rules for a particular bill. However, he knows that Obama will veto anything that is passed by republicans only in the senate. Then Mitch would need 67 v**es (13 democrats) to override a p**********l veto. If he cannot get six democrats to agree to debating a bill how will he get 13 of them to go against their president ? Some people posting here want the republicans to hold firm and let DHS go unfunded. Fine, but how long can they hold out ? How long would it take for the general population to demand that the department be fully funded ? Sooner or later they will have to cave-in to the pressure and it will have been all for naught. McConnell is correct in allowing the courts to decide whether Obama has the authority to change i*********n l*ws. The only way Obama can be stopped by congress is with the cooperation of at least 13 democrats in the senate and 20 or so in the house.. Control of both houses of congress means only that the republicans set the agenda. They need 291 v**es in the house and 67 v**es in the senate to have a super majority and they are short on both counts. So we can accuse them of being RINOS or worst but ,unlike Obama, they must operate within the law. If we want republicans to have absolute power we need to elect 67 senators and 291 Representatives. PS. It is a smart man who accepts inevitable defeat today to come back and fight again tomorrow. Good Luck America !!!

I didn't express an opinion about Trey Gowdy.
You are much less intelligent than I gave you credit for.

Your credit? You are a whole lot more ignorant than I ever gave you credit for, after all you're a liberal. Doesn't take any smarts to be a liberal...it's the easiest choice, the gutless choice...you don't need any core values or principles. In short, you stand for nothing, pal.

When I re-read your last post, it certainly appeared to me that you expressed an opinion. A pretty lame one at that. Trey Gowdy is one of the sharpest guys in the House. I certainly hope he can bring some things out that the Dems are trying to cover up. He's a true patriot in my opinion.
