James 1:2-3

Profiting from Trials

" My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience."

I had joined a Bible study group that was studying James. Right off the bat, James tells us to count it 'all joy' when we fall into trials, because it helps to produce patience. During the discussion it was brought out, that if we are lacking patience, we should ask the Lord for it. But, there always seems to be an exception. In this case, the exception is that He will then test you to see how the patience is working. That all sounds pretty good - so far.

I have faith that what God says, in His Word, that it is so. My husband has always been very impatient with me, and that can stir my ire, therefore, I thought it would be a good idea to ask for patience with him. Now remember, He tests you! The very next day, something came up that could have started an argument, instead, I just agreed with my husband and walked out of the room. As I walked away, I looked up, and asked the Lord, "You didn't have to start with so much patience right away, did You?" I believe He just smiled, maybe even laughed, and thought it's working! And yes, my patience has grown a great deal. Praise the Lord!

I was told, "Don't pray for patience unless you want to practice it until you get it right".
Sounds like you're off to a good start! 😊

Well, since lightning hasn't struck me "yet", I'll say what I have said on numerous occasions, I do believe that God has a "warped" sense of humor; however, one that I appreciate!!

You know God has a sense of humor. The other day, -4 degrees, snow on the ground, I said to the Lord, "What would You like to talk about, Lord." I asked Him that question in all sincerity, and His answer was, "G****l W*****g." I about choked, I laughed so hard.

Of course God has a sense of humor. After all He created the duck billed platypus, the manatee, and mankind.

This was a challenge. There were very few for your chosen devotional verses. These seemed most applicable.

Search me, O God

1. Search me, O God, and know my heart today,
Try me, O Savior, know my thoughts, I pray;
See if there be some wicked way in me;
Cleanse me from every sin, and set me free.

2. I praise Thee, Lord, for cleansing me from sin;
Fulfill Thy word and make me pure within;
Fill me with fire, where once I burned with shame;
Grant my desire to magnify Thy name.

3. Lord, take my life, and make it wholly Thine;
Fill my poor heart with Thy great love divine;
Take all my will, my passion, self and p***e;
I now surrender, Lord, in me abide.

4. O Holy Ghost, revival comes from Thee;
Send a revival, start the work in me;
Thy Word declares Thou wilt supply our need;
For blessings now, O Lord, I humbly plead.

In The Hour of Trial

1 In the hour of trial,
Jesus, plead for me
Lest by base denial
I unworthy be.
When you see me waver,
With a look recall,
Nor for fear or favor
Ever let me fall.

2 With forbidden pleasures
Should this vain world charm
Or its tempting treasures
Spread to work me harm,
Bring to my remembrance
Sad Gethsemane
Or, in darker semblance,
Cross-crowned Calvary.

3 Should your mercy send me
Sorrow, toil, and woe,
Or should pain attend me
On my path below,
Grant that I may never
Fail your cross to view;
Grant that I may ever
Cast my care on you.

4 When my life is ending,
Though in grief or pain,
When my body changes
Back to dust again,
On your t***h relying,
Through that mortal strife,
Jesus, take me, dying,
To eternal life.

You outdid yourself, for it to be a challenge, you came up with two. The music to the first one was so familiar, but I couldn't place it with the more commonly sung hymn. I was not familiar with this hymn.

Armi better watch the second one, it's performed at the Salvation Army. Two very good choices, thank you.
