Who's driving your bus?

I have been inspired by some of the rhetoric on the boards, to share with you, a perspective.

Johnny did so well in school, he was given permission by his mother, to get a job for after school, and through the summer, between his Junior and Senior year in High school.

So, he applied, was interviewed, took exam, and so impressed the owner of the business, that he was hired with no probationary period.

He was so enthused, he did everything asked of him, learned new processes and ways and means, that he made friends in every department to which he was exposed.

In a short version, everyone liked and respected Johnny. He was always on time, never missed a day, and never had to be shown twice, a procedure or told again how to do anything.

His boss told him "Johnny, I want you to consider coming to work full time for me after graduation." Johnny was elated, absolutely thrilled with the offer. He accepted on the spot. He finished High School, and began his new job.

Friday of his first full week, he was late. Everyone was stunned, because it was not like Johnny to not show up, and no way would he ever not call if there was a problem.

9- o'clock came and went; 10 - o'clock, 11 - o'clock...
When Johnny finally showed up, with a silly grin on his face, and went to the boss and said "You're not gonna' believe what happened to me this morning.. I got in my car like I usually do, started driving in to work, and my car headed toward the beach. I wrestled with the steering wheel, but the car kept going, and at the beach it finally stopped."

When the boss heard Johnny's story, after he stopped laughing, he fired him. "Johnny, that's the biggest pile of horse hocky I ever heard, and you explained nothing about why you failed to come to work, but only demonstrated that all that trust we placed in you was because we believed something that was too good to be true. But we just wanted to believe the unbelievable, and you got us real good. Go to payroll and get your pay, and don't come back.

When Johnny got his paycheck, he sat down and cried. Why wouldn't anyone believe him?

Everybody knows Johnny's car was just metal and rubber and a few other ingredients that when put into a certain form, served only as t***sportation. They also knew that your life is not run by your t***sportation.

Well, that body you abuse with tobacco , Alcohol, Diabetic portions of sugar, crack, dope, or wh**ever addiction you choose, does not make all those "choice" decisions. YOU do. Your body is just your t***sportation to where you go to get all the "stuff" you want to alleviate your addiction.

The question you want to ask is simple; Who am I going to allow to run my life, Me, or my t***sportation? Who is going to be in charge? My bus? Or me?

We all have t***sportation that drives us, sometimes where we want to go, and sometimes where we can get our addictions fed.

The sad part of the story is, we make up excuses tht make as much sense as Johnny's story about his t***sportation being in control.

How is that different when you say you cannot control your t***sportation - your own body?

Who's in charge of driving your bus? You? or the bus?

I think maybe you should visit the beach once in a while. I don't want to be lying on my deathbed dying from NOTHING.

But that nothing, you refer to, allows you to save your money to spend on a much easier, enjoyable retirement - in good health.

Right....... And I know a guy that never smoked, drank, went jogging, took care of himself and did all the things you say to do and he died of a massive heart attack at 37. So where was his great retirement and happy ever after????

With all that money saved, you can buy a Ferrari. And drive it to the beach.

That is OK, but my offer still stands. He can either accept, decline or ignore.

You're right! Too rich for me or my pocketbook. I had just read Elwood's post about "Male Logic", so I had Ferrari on my mind.

I can't even begin to compete with AuntiE's Alex. He is placed on a pedestal all his own.
