A 100 proof American Loc: U.S.of A.

I call myself A 100 proof American because my Dad could chase his family tree to the Blackfoot Indians, and Mom could chase hers back to the Mayflower. I’m about 1/8th Blackfoot mixed with a little bit of everything else since then. I’m a 59 year old, X-Military, (Naval Submarine –Service), f**g waving, God loving Conservative. I’ve been a truck driver, carpenter, house painter, and ruff neck (oil field). I was born in New York State, but I’ve lived in almost every state from the east coast to the Midwest. I’m a single Dad of two great sons, and have been for about half my life. I’ve had the oldest (32) since he was 6. Mike is back living with me, to help out with expenses, don’t know what I’d do without him. The younger since he was 11 is 19 now. Kenny is from my 2nd marriage, yeah I know but I had to try it again. He is in the Navy, going to ‘A’ school in San Diego, can’t imagine where he got the idea to do that. I sure do miss him.

Hello 100 proof American:
I am brand new to this forum. I hope, that what I am about to will not shock or offend you in anyway. I, am a very open person I have always been as far as I can remember. I am gay and I totally support same sex marriage. I know, there are a lot of people that donot understand why two people of the same sex would want to get married. But, I believe that everyone has the right to be happy in life. and I am not out to hurt anyone at all. I understand that marriage has always been based on one man and one woman. I have nothing against that at all. But, it upsets me totally that someone in a traditional marriage would be against someone that supports same sex marriage. To, be totally honest I am in the process of leaving the church that I was baptized in. I have going to church there for close to 2 years. Because, they are totally against gays. A few months ago I over heard a conversation between some church members regarding gay people.. they said, I cannot believe that these gay people are protesting at this church because they will not except them and let them take communion. I would protest if my rights were being violated. It, is no different than a hetosexual man or woman saying they were being discriminated against. It happens, all the time now. watch the news and you will see it.
Rich

Welcome to our site.

Let me count the ways. You are unable to construct a grammatically correct sentence. You waited until two years ago to be baptized and obviously gave little or NO thought to the church community you became part of and now you find the church unacceptable because of your eavesdropping on a private conversation between a few members. If you want to speak about watching the news on discrimination on homosexual rights, why not watch the denigrating, spewing, accusatory language used by your community against the mere word Christian. Your community hears the word Christian and screams at the top of your lungs, homophobe. Just as your community cannot be described based upon a few, you have NO Right to judge another community based upon a few. Put on your adult panties and quit whining!

I consider myself a Native American. Native = Born in this Nation; American = Citizen of no other Nation.

To narrow the definition to a single ethnic group is misleading; it is generally accepted that persons formerly known as "Indians", i.e. persons who lived in the Americas before Europeans arrived and settled here crossed over from Siberia via a then-existing land bridge formed when oceans receded because of huge Polar ice caps. There may have persons of other ethnic groups before this migration, but that may be a reach to claim. However, the definition of the word "Native" does not exclude other persons from claiming the same status; it means simply place, not order of entry. Suppose a person is conceived in Korean of a Hawaiian Mother by an African Father, but delivered from the womb in Tierra del Fuego? Is he/she Hawaiian, African, Korean, North American or South American. To carry this to a further extreme, suppose the child is delivered aboard an airplane while flying over an ocean 150 miles from the nearest landfall? Suppose a Child is born in a polar ice station in Antarctica? ( Would that make him/her the only person who could claim to the first Man or Woman)without a Country?)
Give me a break!

I am a Native American and the ethnicity of my ancestors has not one damn thing to do with it!

Rich, I try to live a life of ‘live and let live’, but when others insist I believe they way they do or call me homophobe and a bigot I get a little testy. With that said I would like your opinion on this:
Same-sex couples are denied over 1,100 federal rights and benefits of marriage.
I agree this is wrong, but I do not agree with changing the sanctity of marriage.
Marriage was around long before the government. It should not be tied to federal rights or benefits of any kind. Marriage is a ceremony of love under GODs eyes. A marriage should not be a criteria to get benefits from a worldly government. All government benefits should fall under a civil union act, not marriage. If a couple wants to get the benefits from the government they should have to get a separate certificate from the Government, whether it’s a man and woman, a man and man, or a woman and woman. All should have to get the same ‘Civil Union’ certificate from the government.
Marriage is religious, rights and benefits are Governmental. Let’s stop mixing to two!

As it is Sunday, AMEN to you.

It is not now nor has it ever been about "marriage"! It is now and always has been about money! The statement may be less then gentle; however, I will stand by it.

Oh AuntiE, I agree with you 100%. It’s always been about the money! That’s why I say to get the marriage part of it out of it. Also I feel another part of it is a whole lot of people just want to tear down everything that has to do with religious convictions and religion of any kind.

Actually, in reading again my post, it should say it is about benefits. As you say, let us have e******y in benefits.
