President Bush “lied” about Iraq’s WMDs – thus goes the article of faith among liberals

President Bush “lied” about Iraq’s WMDs – thus goes the article of faith among liberals, endlessly repeated by the likes of Ron Fournier and Jon Stewart as a kind of progressive catechism. Except that it is a libel, as even the New York Times indirectly acknowledges today.

C.J. Chivers and Eric Schmitt write:

The Central Intelligence Agency, working with American troops during the occupation of Iraq, repeatedly purchased nerve-agent rockets from a secretive Iraqi seller, part of a previously undisclosed effort to ensure that old chemical weapons remaining in Iraq did not fall into the hands of terrorists or militant groups, according to current and former American officials.

The extraordinary arms purchase plan, known as Operation Avarice, began in 2005 and continued into 2006, and the American military deemed it a nonproliferation success. It led to the United States’ acquiring and destroying at least 400 Borak rockets, one of the internationally condemned chemical weapons that Saddam Hussein’s Baathist government manufactured in the 1980s but that were not accounted for by United Nations inspections mandated after the 1991 Persian Gulf war.

Note that despite the firestorm of slander the Bush administration endured over its “lies” on WMD, the president never acted to declassify the information on the CIA buyback program, and as a result today it is an article of faith on the left that he lied us into war.

At the time of the invasion of Iraq, there was no way to know that:

These munitions were remnants of an Iraqi special weapons program that was abandoned long before the 2003 invasion,

But:

they turned up sporadically during the American occupation in buried caches, as part of improvised bombs or on black markets.

American Thinker reported on the WMD evidence found in Iraq 11 years ago.

The CIA’s program appears to have put at risk soldiers who were not warned of the risks they faced in handling these potent weapons:

Not long after Operation Avarice had secured its 400th rocket, in 2006, American troops were exposed several times to other chemical weapons. Many of these veterans said that they had not been warned by their units about the risks posed by the chemical weapons and that their medical care and follow-up were substandard, in part because military doctors seemed unaware that chemical munitions remained in Iraq.

In some cases, victims of exposure said, officers forbade them to discuss what had occurred. The Pentagon now says hundreds of other veterans reported on health-screening forms that they believed they too had been exposed during the war.

Aaron Stein, an associate fellow at the Royal United Services Institute, said the belated acknowledgment of a chemical-rocket purchases, as well as the potentially worrisome laboratory analysis of the related sarin samples, raised questions about the military’s commitment to the well-being of those it sent to war.

We have been fed a line of bull over Saddam and WMDs.

b President Bush “lied” about Iraq’s WMDs – thus ... (show quote)

I remember a few short videos that showed up when the USA was starting the Iraq invasion. they showed trucks of the type we had been inspecting earlier moving toward Syria, I believe. The belief at the time was that they still contained WMDs and that those stashes were being hidden during the time we were not allowed to inspect anything in Iraq. All that was ignored by the media, as were the reports much later of soldiers who were coming down with illnesses that appeared to be caused by the type of chemicals found in such WMDs. I am sure the mainstream media will not put any effort into getting the story out now, as it would not suit their agenda.

JMHO-When the three premier intelligence agencies in the world certify that WMDs were there, you can take it to the bank. The liberal media failed to do its investigative reporting. Furthermore, many democrat congressional people saw the intelligence reports but did not have the intestinal fortitude to support the Bush administration. Instead, they allowed the media to perpetrate their false accusations. These same democrat weaklings are still in congress. Good Luck America !!!

Of course Hussein [Saddam not Barack] had WMD. He'd just finished wiping-out tens of thousands of [his] own country's Kurdish Muslims to make sure the WMD's worked. Liberal progressives with [their] MSM couldn't wait for "W" to invade Iraq to smear and slander the Republican party to death; before the next e******n.

It worked for ME; I v**ed for, uggggggg, John Kerry [God that's embarrassing] for the "anti-war" harpings of everything liberal progressive. I am now a "RECOVER-ED" [not recover-ING as in AA] liberal; and NEVER going back!!!

I believe the media purposefully ignored the WMD because acknowledging them would have given Bush the justifiable reason to invade Iraq. What's worse? America invading Iraq or Saddam supplying WMD to terror groups?

This is old news. Its clear that Bush and his minions believed there were enough WMD to take over the world. LOL. When we went in there, we expected to find what we found; left overs from the slaughter of his own people.

Nitwit2007 it wasn't the worry about WMD's in these third world dictatorships was never about them taking over the world.. More about giving them to terror groups. If you think shooting up a café by these animals is bad just wait tell your t*****r in chief, Obama allows Iran to go nuclear. So, do you believe if some of these groups had a WMD they wouldn't use it?

That's the problem. You're trying to think. Just jive it up. You're not qualified to think.

Your Russian convoy carrying WMD was ficticious. YOU, certainly weren't there now were you? As to the dangers floria, I do understand the worry about them getting into the terrorists hands, as it has always been about that as well.

As to Iran, I am not sure how much of that is also fictitious, but to let Iran go nuclear would be a grave error for all free world countries, especially those in close proximity, who I suspect, know more the t***h of the matter than we are being told via the press. I am not in that loop.
