I got into it today with an otherwise more or less intelligent person who goes by "BOHICA", all caps, who insists that his or her creationist views are not his opinions, but actual facts.

He (?) insisted that science cannot create living cells. So I posted an article from Scientific American from last year detailing how our scientists did exactly that, and his/her response was to ask how that was relevant to the topic. Riiiiiiiiight.

You just can't fix stupid. I don't think our new member BOHICA is stupid, generally speaking, but anyone who can stare reality in the face and still deny it because it conflicts with beliefs, might as well be stupid with a mental block like that.

BOHICA is an acronym for "bend over, here it comes again". This person is the one bent over. He, she or it needs a wake-up call.

So in other words, living cells were created, rather than appearing by chance and evolving by the same mechanism?

I too am one of those "stupid" creationists. I haven't read the article yet about science creating a cell, but I think an actual human or animal cell consists of or contains DNA strands. Did the article mention anything about the cell they created containing DNA ? Also could you direct me to the article ?

"WE [animals] are all CREATED equal, B****sheep, just some are more equal than others" [Orwell]. Not sure what that has to do with anything, but you can't convince me it does or doesn't!!! So there. Couldn't resist. "God created the heavens and Angels..." And Lucifer is the single-most prolific liberal progressive who has ever - lived??? Existed???

I was gonna post it for you, but it took me all of 6 seconds (literally) for me to find it.

Seriously, if you people can't manage a simple search, why should any pf us think you have the intellectual capacity to understand it?

So do your own legwork and stop expecting to be spoonfeed just so you can cherrypick and take things out of context to support your religious fantasies.

Yep. Even the most stringent of scientific protocols regarding the beginnings of life, require great "leaps of faith" concerning the probabilities of life spontaneously appearing. Over a period of millions of years, specific events had to occur, in sequence and simultaneously, for life to have evolved from base chemicals.

Scientists have recreated the "imagined" conditions of early Earth and managed to create proteins, which are the base building blocks of life. They've yet to spontaneously combine in a manner which promotes life, the standard of which is; the ability to respire and procreate.

Many assumptions have to be made to explain the origins of life and everyone knows that assumptions are merely guesses. Even if everyone accepted an assumption as true, that does not MAKE it true, until it can be proven in a lab - and can be replicated by anyone. Barring that, anyone's guess is as good as anyone else's. Just having PhD after your name does NOT guarantee that you know what you're talking about, it just means that some other PhD's felt you agreed with THEM enough to join the club.

When guessing and assuming, it is a mistake to discount another's guess's and assumptions. A protein MIGHT have evolved from base chemicals and these MIGHT have combined to form DNA which MIGHT have sparked life and this life MAY have evolved to a higher life form, eventually leading to man.

My question has always been, if higher forms of life developed as mutations resulting from environmental conditions, leading to survival enhancements - why are the lower life forms still in existence? "Survival of the fittest" theories work - as long as the other species die off - which is not always the case. Consider that Apes still exist, even though scientists "leap of faith" claim that humans evolved from them - as a survival mechanism. It seems the Apes have survived just fine - without the human mutation.

Oh please. As much as it pains me to agree with B****Sheep about ANYTHING, such a contrarian view is one that forces me to speak up.

Well personally I think your the ass. While I am not a Christian, I do have a very strong faith in God as do millions and millions of others in the world. I cannot for an instant believe that this world and everything in it including all of mankind just happened by accident. There was a divine plan. There have been many, many instances where people have had communication with beings from the other side And many who have seen these spirits and even angels. You are probably going to deny this, but it is a fact.

Certainly everyone has a right to believe what they want and I respect that. As a believer in not only God but Jesus Christ as God in flesh, I have friends who are educated and intelligent and do not believe as I do but I don't preach to them. If there is no God, then my entire life has been wasted. If my atheistic and/or agnostic friends are wrong, they have wasted their eternity. Something to thing about. For people who like to read, I encourage people to read Josh McDowell's "Evidence That Demands A Verdict".
