So let me put it this way. You are so very correct when you say that ( respect, Integrity, Self motivation, work ethic,)
these are all life's lessons, that in deed, should be learned in the home. It is my belief, what you failed to mention or recognize, is the very fact, they are not. Walk into any class room in America. All one needs do, is spend a day there, then you will see what I mean.
We, and by that I mean the older folks in this country are responsible for this. This is not, let me repeat myself here,
this is not, a h****r, gatherer society. We have progressed
far beyond that. So much so that one only need look back in time, to see the vast difference between century to century, to where we are today. Human progress, is what I am talking about. Even the difference from decade to decade, is startling. The pace of life has so increased, as to now, in order to ( bring home the bacon), parents of this modern world, don't have the time to bother to teach anything to there children.
I can well remember after the 2nd world war, people were saying with p***e in there voice, ( I am going to give my child, all the things I never had growing up ). Really. Well look where it has gotten us. And oh yes, I am as guilty as the next. Each generation is responsible for the one to follow. And in this modern era, we have chosen to make it, the responsibility of the schools, to not only provide teachers, but take on the job as baby sitters to boot. All of us , have given in to the technological wonders of modern day society. Most all parents today, have latched on this
notion, that all I need do, is give my child a cell phone,
I-pad, note book, blue tooth, or what ever, and I can have a little time to my self. I can not think of any young parent today, that even thinks about teaching there child such things as (respect), (Integrity), (Self motivation), ( or how to develop a work ethic). Oh yes, I know there are some. God bless them all. But for the most part, no.
So we have abrogated this responsibility to our school system.
In our zeal to give little Jane or John every thing they could ever want. We have created a void in our children's education. And the School system, was ever so happy to fill that void. Who better was the thinking, from the teacher to the parent. Yea, now we can get on with making a living. Parents now spend perhaps two hours a day with there child. Just who do think, spends the rest of the time with them? { Educators }

our schools should only be teaching, reading, writing, and arithmetic. In a perfect world, I would agree. But this is not, and wont be for a very long time to come. So in the interim we have elected to go with the school system to do it all for us. I do hope this clears up any misunderstanding I may have cause you. RETW

Unfortunately no, I'm still in the fog on this with you, and thank you, but apologies are never necessary. This is just a discussion, you should stand by your words comfortably.

I chose not to state what I thought would be obvious to you, as to not insult your intelligence, regarding the fact that more often than not this does not occur in the home anymore. Also I have spent a couple of hours at school in my time, I'm aware of what you are refering to, as over time more and more parents have lost their moral compass, and as a result we have children today that just can't seem to find a pair of pants that fit properly;etc.

I spoke of this not too long ago, under a different topic. It's true, the technology of today is mind boggling. You referenced time, cosmically speaking, humans have been on earth for a about an hour, and have went from the invention of the wheel and fire, to putting sophisticated robots on Mars, and I think that is awesome, in every sense of the word. If this can be acomplished, then why not having the ability to instill values in our children.

I have heard about such things being said. It is my contention that the meaning of these words, got lost in t***slation along the way. My understanding of the words were, "I'm going to work hard so that my [john or Jane] won't have to", sleep in one room, with his or her six brothers and sisters. Or so that neither has to go hungry, without shelter, or clothes on their back. Not, to make sure that both have the next hot material item off the shelf, whether it be sneakers, or a video game console. I don't think I/nor you perhaps, ever got anything without having to earn it, via cutting grass, washing cars, or shoveling snow. But I didn't have to EARN, the lessons of respect, work ethic; etc. those were supplied to me by a man with great wisdom(my father).
I could go on and on about why you think we "chose" to enlist our schools with the notion they were responsible for "teaching" our children how to navigate what is right and what is wrong. For example, the infiltration of various aspects of our government(education), by c*******ts/marxist before, during, and still now, after the Cold War, but thats another topic.

Yes, this was AuntiE if I'm not mistaken. She is bright and well spoken, and I believe she may agree, that this could happen very quickly if only the individual states had the power to run their schools as the people of that state see fit to do so. That t***sition shouldn't take long at all.

So, I don't fault your posistion, for returning your focus on the schools, as for it is because you/we were conditioned over time to believe that that is how it is supposed to be. I was fortunate, I had someone with an impeccable moral compass to show me right from wrong, and it may surprise some, that it wasn't a teacher by trade. (Thanks Dad)
