Let us take back OPP

Does anyone remember when OPP was a place to exchange ideas with just a few juveniles who indulged in profanity? I do. And I think that it may be time to return OPP to a place where discussion can get heated, but people remain mature enough to discuss ideas and what each of us can do to bring about changes in our own neighborhoods, states, and DC.

What I am suggesting is simple, complain to Admin about those who frequently tell the world F&^K you or refer to you or others as crazy a** conservatives. Regardless of how they try to hide the words with misspellings such as azzz.....it means the same. To me, omitting the profanity is not censorship one can get their meaning across without name calling and cursing each other.

Let your voice be heard. Let us bring OPP back to center where the voices of all, Conservative, Liberal, and the fence sitters have a forum to discuss issues.

It may or may not be worth the effort. My perception is ADMIN will only take action if it is egregious, in their opinion.

We might consider NEVER commenting on any forum created by KHH1 or DJRich. There are others. Those two seem to have no aim except hearing/seeing themselves as purveyors of wisdom.

Assuming the moderators even care, there are not that many people on this site. There are so many rude, obnoxious trolls on here, that losing them would bring membership down to almost nothing.

Yes, sometimes the foul language used by some on OPP, Pennylynn, is beyond distasteful, and usually the authors of these profanity's have little else to say of any importance. I do use "azz" occasionally, but pretty much keep [it] in context as a spiritual and/or mental disorder and often use the word "jack," for proper and elementary preliminaries.

I think you both have grand ideas. Usually the way to dislodge some of the worst offenders is by either laughing at them or ignoring them. If we would make a pact to see who established the post before we even enter the conversation we would go along way to destroy the useless h**e filled comments. I agree with both of you.

The Admin. of the page may have a certain bias no matter how neutral they want to be. It is a natural human trait. I have heard many stories that describe the administrator telling persons to man up or grow up, Being subjected to stupidity and rudeness is not a matter of man up or grow up, it is a matter of useless banter or meaningful discourse.

Pennylynn - Having been the object of many of the foul words you describe, I can say I'd rather do without them. Even when they are directed at others.

But this is a forum based in free speech. That means sometimes there will be language (and nonsensical arguments/statements) that we find repulsive.

Participants here are always free to not engage, and I think they should do so if they don't like what they see.

This is a forum of people with widely differing viewpoints that they sometimes hold to with strong language. If you want more civil discussion go to Sunday School.

How about the people in question simply learning how to be polite to others? There is no excuse for personal rudeness and profanity, and neither should be tolerated.

You are right.... I should just keep moving when I see posts from some individuals. But, I keep hoping that one day they will grow up and communicate a complete thought. I was deeply offended last evening over the treatment of another person.... There was no message, just a h**e filled comment to a decent and well respected member of OPP.

I will do my best to ignore....

I agree BOHICA that politeness should be the rule. Unfortunately a universal expectation of that is both unrealistic and an abrogation of free speech. I think the best we can do is lead by example.

On that, we can agree.

While the two aforementioned are two of the most deplorable they are by no means alone in their conversing solely in 'gutterese'. It does make one wonder how they were reared, what type of habitat they never grew out of. They are a product of their environment. Sad.

That doesn't excuse them.

Thank you for this thread Pennylynn! I have been calling for the same thing here lately and I'm glad you posted this. I agree we should be able to debate topics without all the vulgarity and personal attacks and demeaning posts of sick pics and so forth. I have received several nice messages from several members from this site who also agree. There are a handful such as B****sheep, Blade Runner, RockKnutney, Steve 700, Nopropaganda please, AuntieE, Tasine, etc who should be told to clean up their act or else just leave the site for good. I am glad those of us who can conduct ourselves in a cordial manner have you on our side. Thanks do much once again for your supporting this cause. Together we can take back this site!

I agree that it is time to return to civility on OPP, and since I have been called out, then here is the rest of the story.

There are always cursing and name calling started by rightwing posters, who think it is their right to be obnoxious

If you don't like what I post, don't read it but if you do, and start the name calling I will give it right back.

The worst offenders are in no particular order:

retw, vehooe, looki, angry american, huggins, sutton, johm, wolf waste and a few others, including post menopausal witches and anarchists.

So when all of you self righteous jerks start policing the offenders that you happen to agree with, and chastise them for their ignorance, lies and slander, and quit using pejorative terms for someone's religion, sexual preference, race, and/or other personal freedoms and liberty, then and only then will this forum return to some sort of civil discourse

So the choice is yours, keep whining and complaining, or clean up the acts of the d********g, angry conservative offenders

And it has nothing to do with those who h**e Obama, but they have to accept those of us who h**e conservative politicians and policies. No one has more rights than anyone else, all of the so-called veterans who claim they love this country, the constitution and individual rights should remember that
