Atheist Chaplains ???

A recent attempt by some in the Congress to force the military services to all atheists to be chaplains really confuses me. The services are required by law to have people who have religious beliefs to hold services at least once on Sunday. Along come those fools who think that atheists should be allowed to be chaplains. I agree with Congressman Huelskamp that they just can't serve as chaplains since they don't have religious beliefs other than against religion. Here are some words from Huelskamp about this situation.

“Atheist Chaplains”???

150 of my Democrat colleagues v**ed for an amendment that would require the Secretary of Defense to appoint “atheists,” “ethical culturalists” (whoever they are), and “humanists” as chaplains so long as they’re “ordained by nontheistic organizations.” The notion that an irreligious person can be ordained by a godless organization to conduct religious services for our troops is absurd.

While there can be exceptions to the “there are no atheists in foxholes” adage made famous by WWII correspondent Ernie Pyle, by definition there can be no atheists in the Chaplain Corps. Army regulations require a chaplain to “hold appropriate religious services at least once on each Sunday.” Navy regulations provide that a chaplain “conduct[s] public worship according to the manner and forms of the church of which he is a member.”

I’m pleased the House rejected this ridiculous proposal that disrespects our noble chaplains such as my 95 year-old uncle and Medal of Honor recipient Emil Kapaun.

Would you object to having Agnostic Chaplains ? There are many spiritual people that are not Christians.

Do most of your agnostics fit this sentence? I don't think so but then . . . . . .

The services are required by law to have people who have religious beliefs to hold services at least once on Sunday.

Oxford English Dictionary: Chaplain, "a member of the clergy attached to a private chapel, institution, ship, branch of the armed forces.."

From whence do you intend to obtain the individual, a private chapel or, if an institution, which one?

Most progs don't read links so they don't know about religious groups having to supply chaplains. Maybe agnostics really are more like Methodists than atheists.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I went to Baptist Bible school, I went to Methodist Church, and went to a Catholic University with an open mind, and I still have one. I don`t disbelieve in God, I just haven`t seen one. Thank you again for your input.
