One of the continued debates surrounding charitable giving centers upon whether liberals or conservatives donate more to charity — and it’s a question that one expert wasted no time answering while speaking recently about the current state of philanthropy in America.

“There’s no question that conservatives give more to charity,” Rick Dunham, said president and CEO of Dunham+Company. ”The research objectively demonstrates that … conservatives tend to be more religious and therefore they give more to charity.”

In addition to these claims, which are consistent with some of the past research highlighted on the subject, Dunham, whose company assists with brand strategy and fundraising, was sure to note that it’s not as though non-believers don’t have a culture of giving.

While some non-theists are charitable, he explained that individuals who attend religious services donate six times more than those who don’t, as “giving is more of a lifestyle” for them.

Dunham also defended churches against atheists and other who claim that houses of worship are not institutions that should be included when assessing charitable giving, noting that faith has traditionally held an important role when it comes to the “moral fiber of our culture.”

“I think it’s a straw man argument that individuals put up that giving to churches is not really charitable giving,” Dunham said. ”What’s kind of glossed over is the moral education, the moral inout of faith into life which again goes to one of the strands of our DNA as a country.”

As for the holiday season, Dunham said that the giving outlook is “pretty good.” He added that he’s been watching the stock market following the midterm e******ns, as the it is “the single most important indicator of charitable giving in America.”

He also noted that the general economy is a strong indicator, explaining that the great recession yielded a historical dip in giving — one that hit the charitable sector hard. But with the economy improving, he said giving is also on the upswing.

Regardless of the specifics and the debate over who gives more, Dunham said that one thing is clear: charitable giving is ingrained in Americans’ DNA, especially when comparing it to other countries.

“Many countries have a culture that is dependent on government and, as a result, they feel they pay taxes and government should take care of it,” he said. “And as a result charitable center is a lot smaller than in America.”

Of course giving to churches is charitable giving!!!! Probably more so than donating to practically any other entity. Churches do charity within their churches, within local, state, nation, and world wide causes. Special donations are taken up for specific causes. I've spent a lot of time during my life in churches and within areas they support, and their charity includes no hoopla like when a movie star hosts a program to raise money.......he may or may not be donating his time, but his goal is to get OTHERS TO GIVE. Most of the donations that American l*****ts associate themselves with are those in which they can persuade OTHERS to give, while NOT giving from their own pockets.

The American left is nothing more than socialists, predominantly psychopaths, who TALK about charity because they think it makes them look better OR because they can see some benefit to themselves, NOT because of any empathy with the needy. I don't believe there is a l*****t, living or dead, who gives a rat's ass about the welfare of others. If one exists, I've not met him but would like to.

A few years ago a professor at Syracuse University did a major study on this very subject and wrote a book - "Who Really Cares"

In it he shows that conservatives give both more money and time volunteering than liberals. Further, if he removed giving to churches, on the idea that conservatives are more likely to be religious, it did not change the conclusion - conservatives gave more time and money to non religious charities.

Liberals only like to spend money that belongs to other people.

When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the t***h, they have received all the reward they will ever get. — Matthew 6:2

Because of progressive/Marxist/c*******t propaganda the Liberals consider themselves enlightened and to be more caring and noble, while considering conservatives to be cheap, stingy and selfish as well as antiquated, bigoted, r****t, h**eful, uptight and mean-spirited, h**emongers and warmongers. As usual they have everything exactly opposite and ass backwards. Few of them have any realization how much their mind has been molded and how they have been influenced by Marxist propaganda. They don't even recognize it when they see it !!!

Individuals who attend religious services donate six times more than those who don’t. And the incredibly stupid liberals want to eliminate Christianity, and therefore decency.

So if Christian Conservatives are so charitable why is it you seem to have such hatred for the poor? And do you give because you are chartable or because your god dictates you to? Of course if you guys truly are charitable then I would suggest you sign up with the Gates foundation and pledge your estate at your death. It targets world health, hunger, poverty, plus education and best of all the feds won't get one thin dime of your hard earned wealth!

Christians are eliminating themselves fast enough you don't need liberals to help with that. As for decency, Christian Conservative seem to loath anything and anyone who isn't them. I would hardly consider that decent and I doubt Christ would either...

What on earth gives you the idea that we have hatred for the poor ?????????? We do, however, have hatred of degeneracy in all its forms, which is a prime cause of poverty. The tendency to be degenerate is pretty much innate in human nature and we struggle daily to get away from that. My estate is already willed to go to charity in areas where it is a matter of life and death.

No, the most prolific and dynamic religion in the world; that of Marxist humanism and its propaganda is what is changing people's mentality and lessening the influence of Christianity. Life has become too easy, everything is taken for granted, appreciation and an attitude of gratitude is diminishing. We conservatives just don't approve of the false notion of being enlightened while displaying arrogant degeneracy that Marxist propaganda has wrought in the useful i***ts that are diligently working to destroy (fundamentally t***sform) this country. Maybe you would gain a little needed awareness if you would stop listening to stupid liberals, get off the Alluminatti Obama news and if you would commit to regular viewing of Fox news. You apparently feel that Jesus would not recognize evil, call it what it is and stand up against it.

Steve, without Christianity, I doubt the US would have survived as long as it has. While one does not have to be Christian to be moral, the fact is that Christianity has been the glue that has enabled the US to exist and flourish all these years. The left (American c*******ts, AKA the DNC and enablers, all of whom I believe are psychopaths) CANNOT FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGE AMERICA AS LONG AS CHRISTIANITY FLOURISHES. They MUST rid themselves of this roadblock and they are working overtime to accomplish that goal. I'm not Christian, and I don't agree with what some Christian churches teach - but I'm not stupid either. A demented cockroach has the capability to understand that without Christianity our world would become the most horrible, most decadent world possible. So I root for Christianity, America's best friend. Good show!!!!!!
