There were over 1,000,000 people that used guns for self defense in the USA last year. Here is only two that I know of personally.

A friend of mine worked in this store and a crazy guy came in and started acting a little strange. He pulled a gun out and shot my friend in the shoulder. My friend who was armed was able to shoot the man and k**l him. The police found that he was planning on k*****g more people. So, you might say a gun caused the problem but a gun saved a lot more people. To argue for gun control is like complaining about the animals getting out of the barn after you leave the barn door open. It is a little late. If you could take away guns so easily then go ahead. Take all the criminals guns. I am sure the NRA would be ok with that.

Another example is a friend of mine saw several young rather rough looking people standing near his vehicle when he and his wife came out of a movie theatre. He is a licensed gun owner. He took off his jacket so they could clearly see he was armed. They took off rather quickly. No problem

Those that want to take your gun are typically people who are afraid of their own shadow. Gun owners that I know are not only careful they are extra careful, they have taken gun safety courses and they have them for protection. As for the person who says Washington is not out for your guns they are wrong. Recent legislation in Washington clearly wanted the police to come into homes and inspect the premises! When the snakes were discovered they argued they had made a mistake. This is the true intention of the government. You might also ask yourself why the government is stock piling so much ammunition? The latest buying spree is unprecendented in our history.

Read any report and you will quickly get the jist. The average time it takes for a policeman to respond is over 7 minutes and more in rural areas. A lot of damage can be done by the time they do finally get on the scene.

I don't trust our government. I don't trust liberals. I don't trust what is happening in America. I don't think I am alone. I am NOT afraid of law abiding gun owners. I am afraid of crazy people with guns. This is the real problem. Those people that have committed these rather horrible crimes were all certifiable. And, if the reports are accurate their own family couldn't do anything because the ACLU made sure they were free to roam the streets.

Being a father of 5 children I for one would want justice/revenge for harm being done to one of them. BUT I know that the gun is not the k**ler it was the person holding it and pulling the trigger. THE point that I wish to make is this:
"It's not the WEAPON that you need to worry about - it's the MIND behind the weapon." Like it or not no one will ever get all the guns. Guns are illegal in Mexico - who has the guns and who doesn't? Just like in the United States, the period between 1919 and 1933 during which the manufacture, sale, and t***sportation of alcoholic beverages was forbidden by the 18th Amendment who had it – everybody.
Driving while texting that's illegal, has that stopped?
Drugs?
I*****l i*********n?
Child Pornography?
In my humble opinion the best use of Tax payer money and all other resources both personal and professional is to find out what creates the "Bad Guy" and I do believe that the bad guys are MADE. And I believe it all starts at home, in our schools, and in our way of life. What can a child learn living in an apartment or housing complex playing Shoot'm up Video games, or watching some of the more violent movies and TV shows. Children raising sibling children because Mom and Dad are both working - and maybe that alone could be the cause of children raising their own children. Parents who can't cope with their children because of stress/alcohol/drugs. What kind of responsibilities and ethics can a child learn under those circumstances. Some parents were beaten (I don't mean Spanked I mean beaten, I was spanked and I was beaten – I know the difference.) beaten as punishment - they tend to pass this style of punishment on their children. In schools large class sizes and parents who expect the teacher to do the parenting, but won't support or reinforce the teacher. What about the Bully in school and the parents of the child being bullied who say "tell the teacher" (what boy wants to tell the teacher that he's being picked on)? After years of being picked on - could that be the cause of kids getting the parents guns and taking them to school and in-discriminately shooting anyone possible? Our efforts as a society should be to find the ROOT cause and to educate! A huge amount of money (and probably blood) can be spent on getting the guns, but there will always be another gun to take its place and another disturbed MIND to use it.

One of the things that especially bothers me about politicians and activist who advocate tighter gun control, are at the same time the ones who gives lenient sentences to violent criminals. That to me seems inconsistent.

Ladies and gentlemen - Ladies and gentlemen, yuu huu, ladies and gentlemen, Mr./Ms. Police officer, Your honors’, you politicians’ and YOU who think… When is the last time you ever heard of a bad guy worrying about the 2nd amendment or any other legal anything?? (unless of course they are captured and on trial or in prison, then they take every advantage they can of the law and they have more rights than we do according to my wife who is a retired corrections officer)? The bad guys will always have the weapon (concealed or otherwise) regardless of any law that is written. He will always use that weapon to get his way and again he will not care if the law says that he can’t carry a weapon. Help or the police will most always be moments away and as usual you may have only seconds to arm yourself in defense of yourself and or your family. And believe me you do not want to go up against a gun toten’ bad guy when you have only knuckles or a knife. Personally I wish that there were no weapons of any kind in this world, and no bad guys – but dreaming will not disarm the world nor its’ bad guys. And besides as I keep saying “It is not the weapon that you need to worry about – it’s the MIND behind the weapon”. A moral law abiding citizen will not harm you - but a bad guy has no morals, that is why he is a bag guy, he is why we have laws.

I would be all for more gun control if I thought the government would more successful in keeping guns out of the hands of criminals than they've been in keeping drugs out of their hands.

Unfortunately, experience and common sense tells me the govrnment would only be successful in keeping guns out of the hands of honest citizens - making them even more attractive prey to armed criminals.

Isn’t it a shame that our officials who wanted the job of being a Politian ‘RAN for office’ elected by us and are ‘PAID by us’ aren’t smart enough to know that you can’t:
Take money from the rich - President Obamas’ first term in office ‘We are gonna share the wealth’
President Obamas’ first term in office ‘Give everybody in the USA man, woman, and child medical insurance. (part of his Share the wealth thing)
Or learn from history.
Prohibit Alcohol (1918 – 193?) FAILED – everybody including the politicians’ had it at will. How much $$
Do a “War on drugs” STILL FAILING, wish it was working but dreaming is of little use there. How much $$
Taking the guns is not gonna work and there will probably be bloodshed over it. (Guns are illegal in Mexico, but the bad guys have them and there are still innocent people getting k**led) How much $$
Make it illegal to:
Drink and drive.
Take illegal drugs.
Talk on a cell phone while driving (Cops do it all the time).
Speed.(drive fast)
Sex with minors.
Child pornography.
Spousal abuse.
C***t on your Taxes.
Underage drinking/drugs.
I’m tired of typing and this list is just the tip of the ‘against the law’ iceberg.
My point is wrong doing can’t be outlawed because the OUTLAWS will ignore the law and violate the LAW ABIDING CITIZEN. And in the case of gun violence there will not be a law enforcement officer there with his/her gun drawn on the bad guy in your defense when you need them. As I’ve said before “It’s not the weapon that you need to worry about – it’s the MIND behind the weapon.” Put the money they will spend on ‘getting the guns’ into finding out what makes a bad guy and how to fix them and I’m bet’n that that do more good than making more laws that will go unheeded.

Ron - agree - when I was a kid, growing up in the ghetto, the idea that one could commit a murder and ever see the light of day outside a prison was unheard of. Today, in places like NY, one may get life which averages about 7 years.

Today, all the focus on law enforcement is on the non-criminals, the victims - while we do all we can to minimize the punishment

I do enjoy seeing these arrogant folks who think they've done something intelligent and superior by providing links to some article - usually posted on some left wing site - glad to see others provide intelligent discourse.

Ron, you're missing the point. The politicians don't want to stop crime, they want to make everybody a criminal. It's difficult to control a population of law abiding citizens. It's easy to control a population when everybody is guilty of breaking some law and can be arrested and jailed at will.

Mr. Voice of Reason
Sir, I sure hope you’re wrong….
Though reason says you may be right. But… I don’t think that they so much want to make everybody a criminal – but I do think that they find it easier to write a LAW than to try to find and fix the problem. I do know that some things do require a LAW, traffic laws come to mind here (but can you explain to me how it is that within a second of your drivers’ license expiring that it’s against the law to drive? Do you suddenly forget that you should be on the right side of the road, or how to read a “STOP” sign let alone what it means, and how to do it? Personally I think it’s for the money, and or for TRACKING purposes.)
When it comes to the guns I think that they are just trying to appease the people who’ve lost a loved one to a gun tot’n bad guy. I don’t blame a person who wants action taken against the bad guy, I’m a father of 5, and I know I’d want justice. But they keep going for the guns - missing the fact that it’s the MENTALLY DISTURBED AND THE ‘BAD GUY’ MENTALITY that did the deed. And in my mind a bad guy is the person who wants what you have and is not willing to work and earn the money to buy it – but is willing to use violence to get it. ohh and this could be the start of a list of what makes a ‘bad guy’ and there are more than just bad ‘guys’ out there, there are bad ‘girls’(TV series Snaped). And not to forget, guns are not the only weapon out there, there are also knives, bats, razor blades, hammers, screw drivers, poison, - yada yada yada. – Ohh and also ink pens (Some politicians, judges, lawyers, and even a few police officers use these.)
As I keep saying:

“It’s not the weapon that you need to worry about – it’s the MIND behind the weapon.”

And the place to start preventing the mentally disturbed and the bad guy mindset is:
• In the home. (educating mom and dad not dictating to mom and dad) – educating. )
• At school. (good and caring teachers, who help “bad Billy” and “timid Timmy” with their problems.) in addition to educating them LOL (smilly face here).
• With current bad guys.
• With the current mentally disturbed.
• With our political system.
• With our legal system.
• With our correctional institutions.
• With anything that harms the developing MIND.
Oh before I forget, you don’t need to “control a population of law abiding citizens” – they don’t need controlling (and are likely to get out of control if you try).
One of my dreams is – no weapons of any kind on planet earth, and no reason for them – a nightmare for law makers.:lol

Those facts are impressive… BUT depending on the circumstances if there is no gun available then a hammer or screw-driver, or a kitchen knife or baseball bat, or rope, or………

“It’s not the weapon you need to worry about – it’s the MIND behind the weapon”.
